1911 disassembly and reassembly

I just got a SAM Omega 6 9mm and it is my first 1911. It has a 1 pc flgr. I took it apart by pushing the recoil spring plug, turning the barrel bushing clockwise, removing plug and spring, lining up the slide stop with the notch,removed slide stop, removed slide.Just went that far, did not remove barrel or bushing. Just wanted to grease the slide rails. I then put the guide rod back in, made sure the barrel link was up, put slide back on, lined up slide stop hole with barrel link, replaced slide stop, and at this point my guide rod slid forward, so I pushed it back. I figured it could only go so far because the barrel link was locked in and it could not go up or down because of the barrel and frame, so the only place it could go was where it was suposed to be. Got the plug and spring on and locked in no problem, and it cycles fine. Will it work fine or did I do something wrong and will I get a surprise the first time I shoot it.
 
The guide rod will slide up the barrel if the plug is not in, but it won't come all the way out. If you can cycle it and passes a function check it should be good to go.

Who cares about that. I am here to talk about guns. Period. If you have nothing constructive to offer, go somewhere. (I wish I could say where). I am on dozens of other forums, Canadian, American, and European, and this forum is the only one that has people (again, biting my tongue) that are so damn anal about spelling and grammer. What are you shooting for for, a Nobel Prize for Literature. Sorry. Wrong place for that. I'm pretty sure your in the minority as far as giving a crap about it. I'm here to talk guns, not to be criticized buy hypercritical people like you, and besides, it couldn't have been that bad because you got my point just fine as proven by the fact you were able to answer my question.
Does anyone have anything useful to add as far as MY TOPIC!

I've found when reassembling a 1911 it helps to invert the slide and frame, gravity helps keep the barrel lugs locked into the slide. {tip} I also would recommend a drop of oil on the outside of the barrel bushing (bushing to slide fit).

If the link pin is through the link and your 1911 cycles properly your GTG.
 
I just got my first 1911 and as easy as disassembly was I found assembly a pain in the a double crooked letter. I too am curious if I did it right or if there are any tricks to it.
 
I found the 1911 to be a pain after learning on the 1935 HiPower.

It gets to be quite bit easier if you get a lot of practice. But if you only have the one gun and only take it apart 3 times a year to clean, it will be tricky each time.

And, Yes. If the slide stop is installed and it dry fires correctly, it is GTG.

I hope I used enough spaces, commas, periods and paras....

I have found that alot of the guys here are ball busters but I honestly think most of them want to help at the same time. Canadian humor, who knows. As I stated, if you can cycle and the gun passes a function test you are good. My function test consists of racking the slide, engage the safety, pull trigger to confirm safety functions. Switch off safety, pull trigger to drop hammer, hold down the trigger and cycle the slide again. Let trigger out to see if sear resets and pull trigger again to make sure hammer drops.

Thank you juancarlos, you are a gentleman, a rare commmodity around here. As a woman, I have no interest in ball busters. I just want to talk about guns. Only guns. You wouldn't think it would be hard on a gun forum. Oh well. From now on, I will just continue to make my spelling and grammer errors, but just ignore all posts that do not pertain to the O.P. I don't have a problem with good natured kidding. I hate being criticized for little mistakes in spelling or grammar. Some people don't have as good an education as others. I think I get my point across even with the mistakes I make. Isn't that good enough. If not, there are plenty of other forums where I don't get mocked. Oh well, at least there are gentlemen here like you and juancarlos that are willing to share your knowledge with me and not mock me. I thank you sir. Kristine.

Sometimes it takes thick skin to get through some of the yahoos who are all too ready to jump and criticize and ridicule their fellow GunNutz while offering nothing informative. Guess you can call 'em forum bullies. Stick around long enough and you'll figure out who they are. Keep in mind though that there's a lot of sarcastic remarks with no ill intent other than to rib each other.

Sometimes the same questions gets asked over and over again without the OP even using the search function or even looking a few threads down from their post and if you're here long enough, you will see why some of the older members become a bit annoyed. A lot of times you get the lazy new members who want all the info spoon fed to them without so much as a Google attempt. Such is the modern society we live in today when even searching Google is a chore.

Anyhow, ignore those that are quick to jump on your back (there is an ignore option somewhere) and keep plugging away at it.

Oh, and Sunray... well, that's just Sunray.

As a noobie to handguns the 1911 was one of the first platforms I owned. The field stripping and maintenance of it overwhelmed me to the point were I ended up buying a G17. Ended up selling the 1911 'cause it wasn't being used.
Fast forward a few years....I'm more confident "working" on HG's now and ready to give the 1911 another chance. No value added here...just my thoughts.
 
buy a norinco 1911 and rip the thing apart, perfect price point to learn about a gun, do some home gunsmithing and not really worry if it breaks.

i can now have my 1911 go from this

Sunray has a point ....

If you're asking for intelligent commentary and input, you owe it to the readers to at least make a posting readable. Paragraphs and spaces after punctuation make that more pleasant. Proper grammar and spelling are trademarks of the more erudite subscribers.

If you can't be bothered to do that, why should anyone respond?
