To expand on that thread title. I just ordered the Ruger SR1911 + 1000 Rds deal from Canada Ammo.

(link for ya https://www.canadaammo.com/product/detail/ruger-sr-1911-5-and-1000-round-case-of-45acp-combo-deal/)

This will be my first pistol, and my first time purchasing any firearm online. From what I understand of the process, the package is placed into the hands of Canada Post who either deliver it to my door or drop it off at a local post office, where I have to pick it up.

Now, if the mailman contacts me and delivers it straight to my apartment building, it's a simple case of proving my identity, receiving the package,
and bringing it upstairs to ogle ( I mean, secure...) right?

However, if the package is delivered to the local Post office... what exactly happens from there? Do I need to call the CFO to get a special ATT to bring it home to my apartment? Will my Club ATT suffice for that regard? Do I need to have the Post office worker speak to the CFO, to sign off that the right guy got the package?

On the registration side of things, is the pistol registered to me now that I've paid for it? Or would that phone call take place at the post office/ my home upon receiving the firearm?

I know I might be coming off as neurotic here, and I'm sure this is going to be no big deal, but I want to know exactly what to expect. I don't want to risk messing up something minor and becoming an accidental criminal.

Thanks in advance for the guidance, guys. I promise you pics and a full range report when I get my grubby little mitts on that sucker.

As long as you do not open box until you get home you should be fine. How do you know what is in the parcel....wink wink. The postman did not have a ATT when he delivered it. If you want to play it extra safe call the CFO and ask.

It is exactly like receiving any other package from the post office. Take it home and....is it the DeWalt cordless tool set you ordered? Or the one from Victoria's Secret? No! It's a gun!

Note that there are a few anal members here who get off on following rules, even imaginary ones, who will tell you differently.

If it goes to the post office just call the CFO and get a short term att to bring it back to your place. Usually only takes 5min on the phone and 30 sec to print off. Better to cover your a$$ than be made example of

Don't forget to add the part about rushing home every day to see if it's arrived yet. I can't be the only one waiting at the door like an eager dog.

I never have and never will. The only legal requirement to pick up a parcel from the post office is proof that you live at that address. Myself or my parents can pick it up with equal ease, and nobody knows what is in any box until that box is opened and inspected.

Go pick up ur ebay order from post office, might mix orders nd give u the gun, u wont know till u get home which by then ur covered by yr LTATT

This!

I don't even print mine. I just keep the email they send me on my iPhone.

So, Canada Ammo was all like

" Your order has been shipped!"

And I was all like

Now. Time to enter phase 2 of "Wait out"...

This is incorrect. I have had multiple discussions with the local Nova Scotia CFO and federal 1-800 people and you are required to get a temp ATT to bring the package from the post office to your house. Takes 5 minutes. You know what's in that package, you are required to get a temp ATT. If you are stopped and searched, you're screwed - goodbye RPAL, goodbye car (you can get the car back after paying the impound fines).
As for taking it to the range, you have to have your long term ATT which you get after in the mail. Typically you do a club membership thing, and wait two weeks. The short term ATT / Temp ATT only applies for that one move in the given time frame (usually a day).

Welcome to our ####ty system.

I'm in Ontario and have picked up every handgun I have at post office. I called for ATT every time. It's a simple phone call, and the last time, they said just write the ATT number down, I don't need to print it. Printed from email anyway. It's so simple to do, but could save you a world of trouble down the world. Most people in acccidents never expect it. God forbid it should happen, how would you explain the gun and no ATT? I didn't take the chance. What if Rob Ford is driving drunk or high that day? Better safe than sorry.
