SKS vs VZ58 - my review

CSA now make a non restricted chrome lined VZ58, which is the version I have.

As for simply buying a modern rifle, well it's not as simple as that. Buying a rifle is about choosing the caliber first right? I'm not a fan of the .223 caliber poodle shooter round.

I guess the countless numbers of people and animals killed with .223 are all faking it right?

Cz858 is a piece of garbage i put 500 rds down mine and i enjoyed my norinco sks way more. Couldnt hit the broad side of a barn with the cz. Sks i was hitting the 300m gong all day long and no gremlin

BULLSH*T!!!!!!!!! Not a chance would your SKS ring the gong at 300, unless the gong was 8'x8'. There's nothing to enjoy about an SKS other than putting it down.

I've avoided the CSA products. Mine is the regular CZ858.

You can get the AR in any caliber these days. Rock River arms I seem to recall now has an AR for 7.62x39 that takes AK mags. Also I seem to recall new CZ rifles at shot show. So in a year or so there should be more options.

As for the poster who's CZ wasn't accurate. I hit the gong at 200 with mine no issue. Good enough for iron sights and cheap ammo. So I don't know what you're talking about. Mine has been very good. Accuracy is as expected and handles so much better than a SKS. I also find it strange those arguing for the SKS. The CZ is more in comparison to the AK. The SKS had a very short service life and was dumped quickly for the AK which became a world famous rifle. I kind of feel like this argument is someone saying their econo crapbox car is better than a sports car because it's cheaper and more fuel efficient. Yet the sports car looks better, drives a lot better and is just plain cooler. If you "prefer" driving a Ford focus then so be it. You're only fooling yourself.

lol people say this tread is pointless but it just keeps going. To op good review.

So the hand guard and railed dust cover from gunexperts is listed in euro dollers (€490.00for the hand guard and €308.00for dust cover) and when i converted it it was $690.56 and $434.06 that's a lot, might as well buy another cz858 or vz58. I want them bad i cant spend that, can I ?

When I converted it, it was $690.56 and $434.06. That's a lot! Might as well buy another CZUB Vz58 or CSA Vz58.

This is exactly the reason why I stay clear of the tactical stuff. I was thinking about changing out the sporter stock on my CSA .223 Sa Vz 58 Sporter for an AR-15 stock. I thought, "Its plastic! There is no way it can be more than $50." Wrong! $300 for a complete set buffer tube and stock! The cheapest I could find was still over $200! I would still have to find a pistol grip for it and even that's expensive for what it is. I would rather spend that money on ammo, hunting equipment, or an SKS. For $200, I'm very happy with the goofy looking sporter stock. The only reason why I wanted the AR stock was for the adjustable length of pull. The only thing I think is worth the time is the AR-15 mag adapter which I've been seriously thinking about getting.

This thread is full of BS.

It costs a whole $50 bucks to add a scope mount to an SKS.

The BC tactical mount works just fine with a Bushnell TRS 25.

The Choate scope mount works just fine also, with any number of scopes.

Nobody needs to drop a thousand dollars on a scope mount. That's just ridiculous.

Don't need to drop any money into ether. Guys took them to war, they are good enough for me ! lol CZs are cool all tacted out but everything for an sks I think looks plastic and junky.

Yeah the rifle just works with me, I can hit what I want with enough proficiency to keep me happy and plus they just look badass, are very durable and extremely easy to strip and clean.

I agree, the first time that I had seen an SKS at a friends house I knew right then and there I had to have one...lol. A few Years ago I thought about putting a tactical stock on one of them but then I thought why bother... I love the look of the Rifle just as it is and for me at least there really is nothing I can add to it..(except for the Murray's spring loaded firing pin that I installed in all my SKS's).

unfortunately, they don't seem to take credit cards, they want to function via bank transfer. And them being in the Czech republic makes that a bit difficult. And sketchy.
