Why would somebody do this (movie scene)? What was the director/armorer thinking?

Shoot 3 rounds, rack the slide...but why?

Well you see that was a 1911. What they do quite often is malfunction, and in this instance it did not, but the character, so used to it doing it so often subconsciously racked the slide to clear a malfunction that did not occur

Hmm, I'm not sure of the context. Maybe his gun did actually jam.

Other than that, perhaps he ejected the magazine, and then racked the slide to empty the chamber. It sounds like he did something with the gun after doing so, perhaps that the sound of him releasing the slide?

the character was also a federal agent at one point, so perhaps the racking after 3 rounds has something to do witht he way he was trained and the common malfunctions of early 1911's?

he definitely racked the slide cause you can hear a 'plink' of the round hitting the ground a seconds later before he does that last 'click' while its showing his face.
maybe its his trademark, leaving a good full case with his fingerprint on it?

you wanna talk about a TV show that totally misses the mark with guns.
i just finally sat down and watched the entire series of Lost.
after watching all those episodes it drives me crazy that they will say "lets go and fight the others!" and everyone would load their guns.
yet when they got to the fight everyone would make a show of re-loading their gun.
if im going pull a gun its gonna be locked and cocked before i run into the fight!

it wasnt bad the first couple times, but after like the 100th time it started to drive me nuts!

I noticed it too.

Maybe he reloaded after the shooting, and we did not see that. But if so, no need to rack the slide.

Maybe it was not scripted, but just something the actor did to give his hands something to do. Some actors do a lot of shooting, and it can show in their acting. Others know the mechanical basics but do not really understand the procedures. This guy may be the latter.

Maybe they had magazines pinned to 3rnds? lol

Typical Hollywood. It's always funny to watch a movie where the agents or bad guys get into a shootout, pull out their guns and rack them. Good to know that they are all safety conscious and all carry unloaded guns.

Oh, and the guys and girls who can #### that "unicorn" hammer on their Glocks or M&P.

The odd time Hollywood gets it right and the actor does a press check as opposed to racking their guns... then 5 mins later when they get to the last bad guy, they rack their guns again throwing everything out the window.

Or the guys who can shoot the wings off a gnat in one scene but get into a firefight later on and can't hit the broadside of a barn.

Oh Hollywood.... lol

if he'd tossed the gun I could see it, but it makes zero sense for what he did. You hear and sort of see him drop the slide and stuff the gun back in his pants, so racking out the 4th round was dumb as ####

Many movie and tv show firearm blunders

Watch last years walking dead season finale.

Rick gives Andrea his revolver to kill herself before she turns.

They leave the room
door closes
dramatic pause
BANG
Sound of shell casing hitting the floor....

Laugh2

Listen to the sound AFTER he racks the slide ... sounds as he drops slide AFTER racking it ...

Movies, what else to say?

It's like a two stroke Motorcycle sound being dubbed in for a sport bike or a Harley...or vice versa. Or how they have the 10 speed gear box during the car chase/drag race and can always find another "Turbo" gear change...typical of most movie makers. If they felt racking the slide added drama or effect they add it in even if it doesn't make sense.

Not all 1911 often malfunction, My 1911 never had any kind of malfunction at all.

I remember that - even my wife said someting like "it just wouldn't happen that way!!"

I always love the sound of the hammer being cocked on a Glock.

Like in fast and furious when they are downshifting during a drag race. Haha I was dying from laughter.
