Unable to ship to P.O. Box or Rural sites?

I ordered ammo through CanadaAmmo in the past and it was sent to my P.O. Box with no problem. There other day I received the following message:

Unfortunately we are unable to ship ammo through CanadaPost or to boxes or rural sites.

Can you please provide a physical address for us to ship this order to?

I haven't gotten a response yet but has there been some policy change regarding shipping to P.O. Boxes? Anyone know?

Canada Post will not transport ammunition, powder, primers or explosives under The Dangerous Goods Act. Attempting to transport those goods via Canada Post is in contravention of that Act. All such shipments must be carried by a licensed courier such as CanPar or UPS, both of whom require a physical residential address for delivery rather than a post office box.

I live in the boonies and encounter this all the time. I just arranged with a local business owner that I know to use their address in town. When it comes in I just pick it up the next time I'm at the store.

Yep, there's usually a business in small towns that acts as a drop off point for the UPS/Canpar/Purolator trucks. It can be delivered there, Ammo is not allowed to be shipped through the mail system.

While correct it is not true in practice as Canadapost subcontracts for canpar/UPS for many rual locations. When I recieve ammo that is signature required and not home, it goes to the post office for pick up via parcel pickup card.

Sorry to bring this back to the top but I need re-assurance from CanAm about shipping crates of ammo to a rural residence that does not receive door to door delivery by courier. If Canpar doesn't operate in my area does another courier take it's place...meaning...would Purolator or DHL complete the delivery to a local business for me? I'd hate to order a bunch of ammo and have to drive for 3 hours to pick it up at some depot in Edmonton. Couriers will not offer door to door service here....and I'm not even in the boonies. I've never seen a Canpar truck out here but Purolator and DHL will deliver to a few local businesses.

Or, does Canpar deliver to the local post office for me to pick up? I have no problems travelling to the local PO for pick up. Please advise CanAm before I place an order. Thank you.

No, it's not. There is nothing that says you can't ship ammunition or components via Canada Post unless it's in quantities OVER 500kg. It's Canada Post's idiotic internal policy that prevents shipping through CP. Some idiot at CP misinterpreted the act. Call an inspector and ask for yourself if you don't believe me.... or read the Act.

I worked for a outdoor sports store and I shipped ammo through CP all the time.

But is still their policy regardless, no?

It is, but it's a policy based on stupidity. I'm not advising people to ship ammo with CP, I just get sick of all the misinformation floating around that gets continuously propagated by those who don't bother to read.

Dude, thanks. Seriously. I fight similiar nonsense in my industry all the time.

I have received ammo many times at my local post office, that includes Canpar stuff from CanAm. I live in the sticks and all my mail goes to the local post office where I pick it up. There is no UPS/Purolator/FedEx trucks, everything gets handled via Canada Post from Winnipeg on.

There is no issue receiving stuff from these companies though, my "address" is 123 Main St. and since I don't have home delivery, it all goes to the post office anyhow

Is there any issue with having different billing and shipping addresses?

Because of the rural delivery thing, I too only get mail (or any delivery) to the post office (P.O. Box ###), so that is my legal billing address. However, physical address is required for the courier (who wont' actually bring it to the physical address).

I haven't ordered from CanAm yet, but some places don't allow different billing and shipping addresses. Am I right to assume that there are enough of us second-class rural residents here that CanAm accommodates the different billing/shipping addresses?

?

I've done that before. I live out of town, and especially in the winter, the CanPar guy doesn't like coming out this way. I put my work address for delivery and just put in the comments what I was doing. That being said, it was my 4th order from CanAm so they knew that it was the same Credit Card used the other times so I'm not sure if that makes a difference.

Last time I ordered, I tried to have it shipped to home and the CanPar guy phoned me (from the phone number listed on my address) and said "Hey. You at home today? Because I have to deliver stuff in town anyways today, do you mind if I swing by your work?" Haha. He phoned me when he was 5 minutes away and parked next to my truck in the lot for the delivery
