Does anyone hunt deer under 600 yards anymore?

Yep. I hunt the brush with my Winchester model 100 from 5-75 yards. If Im in the fields, out to about 150 with my Remington 788 in most places. Mind you, I have yet to fill a tag.

Nope. And I don't take archery shots at less than 75 yards either! ;)

While I am capable of the longer pokes, most of my deer have indeed been done in at less than 150 yards.

And remember, what you may know to be 200 yards looks like 400 to others. :)

Why am I so damn interested in this ?.........I dont even hunt for crying out loud.
A sure sign of mental twist.................1 in 10 I think.

I shot mine this year at about 20 yards with an older 30-30. Most hunters I know rarely end up shooting past 250 yards, even the ones with very capable long range setups.

My whitetail this year was at 220 yards. Had my brother feeding me the range info while I was settling the crosshairs. I actually don't think I've ever taken a shot that was further out than 350 yards, but I like to stick to some pretty thick bush. Field hunting just isn't as fun for me. Plus, I can't afford the optics that would be needed for me to feel comfortable with a 600 yard shot.

Every tag I filled this year was 500 or less yards distance....elk was the furthest at 503 yds ranged, a black bear was the closest at around 30 yards. This years whitetail was 300yds guestimated...moose was around 70 yds.

Reading the other posts on this board - I have to Ask - Does anyone hunt deer under 600 yards anymore?

LOL, this is CGN... everyone is capable of hitting a 6" size target at 1000yrds cold bore, barefeet in shorts standing on one leg in 4 feet of snow. :)

My question is where are you shooting these distances ? In my area you would be hard pressed to find this yardage, short of a lake. Then backstop would be the issue.
