isnt the chinese surplus ammo noncorrosive and usually $199 for an 800 or so round brick?
There is controversy as to whether or not the Chinese stuff is corrosive or not. Lots of people say to treat it as if it is. Its not advertised by the Chinese high school class that makes it if its non corrosive or not. Were just going off of what the people selling it are saying.
I treat all surplus or bulk 7.62x39 ammo as corrosive. You never really know what is or what is not corrosive.
The Barnaul, SCDS, Tula, and MFS state non-corrosive on the box but they're clearly Berdan primed. Its corrosive but not as bad as military surplus. If you can get the Sellior & Bellot factory loaded stuff with brass case which is boxer primed, then you've got fully non-corrosive 7.62x39 thats easily reloadable. Its just really hard to find the $9 a box FMJ stuff vs their $20 a box soft point hunting load.
This isn't true at all. Just because it's berdan primed does not make it corrosive. It simply means that you can't reload it. Well you could, but with great difficulty and effort.
I know for a fact the Barnaul isn't corrosive. It's just dirty is all.

Berdan primers has nothing to do if they are corrosive or not. MFS and Barnaul are non corrosive. They others should be as well.
So is my whole statement not true or just part of it?
You can reload Berdan primed cases. Iraqvetern8888 does it often enough and its not with great difficulty it just requires different reloading tools that almost no one wants to invest in. Especially since you can get boxer primed 7.62x39 and 7.62x54R. You're right though, I should of left out the part about Berdan primed being corrosive. We simply just don't know just like how we don't know if the Chinese surplus is corrosive or if the sellers are just passing it off as non-corrosive. Feel free to leave your gun dirty for a week and tell us what happens.
Corrosive or not corrosive it makes no difference to me, i always clean my rifle![]()
There is no point in doing anything if you don't do it properly. It's HOW you need to clean your rifle after shooting corrosive that makes the difference. My hunting rifles get some Hoppes and G96 through them and no problems. I tried it when I got my first SKS and had spots of rust after only a few days. Hot water, hot water, hot water for corrosive! Windex if you're in a bind!
