If a fellow was shopping for a semi other than a ruger which would providethe best:

1) accuracy
2) good trigger
3) least loading jams
4) prettiest:D

for under $300

The nicest trigger for the money is the Savage .22 auto with new accu-trigger. Very accurate, but not very pretty. I borrowed a friends at the range and I was impressed with it. I didn't have any jams, but I only shot 50 rounds of Federal Hollow points.

I do have the Remington 597. Again good accuracy and much nicer stock design than the Savage, but the trigger is really bad. Worst factory trigger I've ever had and it's fussy on what ammo it like to eat.

The receiver on the Remington is an alloy made of two pieces welded together. The Savage is all steel and one piece.

I know it's not what you want to hear but...the 10/22 is a pretty good little gun.

I picked up a Taurus repro of the Winchester 63, arguably the best semi rifle ever. It is a sweet little rifle, and probably the nicest semi I've ever shot. The bonus was I picked it up for under 300. Good luck trying to find one, though.

Remington 552 speedmaster. Nice crisp trigger, easy to load tube mag.
Accurate. Shoots short long long rifle in semiautomatic.
Mine is for sale in good condition for $275 in the EE
Funny thing is though ive had marlin and a couple of others
before i bought a 10/22. Well i dont want anything else now.
I recrowned the barrel of my ruger and its shooting much better now.
They are worth it. I like since i can customize it and get a gun exactly as i want it.

How about a used Browning Auto-22... Mine as been very reliable, accurate, the trigger is quite nice, I like the look of it (it's a classic)... You might need to do a bit of searching to find one under $300

I think the Marlin 795 and the Savage 64 are both accurate semi's and great bang for your buck (and in the$300 range) but if you want to tinker your have to get a 10/22. :runaway: :)

BRNO # 581, All steel, Walnut stock, clip magazine, nice sights, very user friendly, can be completely disassembled with bare hands, VERY accurate

Nice looking gun but aren't they a discontinued model. and probably still over $300 in decent condition and used?
