I'm just wondering what could be the matter. I thought the 7.62x39 round if sighted in at 25m will shoot high 2" at 50m, but mine shoots high 5" at 50m consistently using iron sights.
What could be wrong?
Nothing is wrong.
so just to confirm it is a good idea to zero your 7.62x39 rifle to 25m? As it will hit dead center at 200m?
It's simple ballistics. In order to hit a target at 100m, you have to arc the shot. It just so happens that on the way up, the bullet will strike the 25m mark as it will at the 100m mark on the way down
No I get that. That's why I said I expected it to hit the 50m mark 2" high. My issue is that it is 5" high, and not 2" high.
Google 7.62x39 trajectory with 25 yard zero - the 50 yard point is only 2" high.

(see first image)
at no point in the arc should it be higher than 3". The 3" high mark is at around 125 yards.
That does not take into account for sight height
Just a quick question....does it do the same if someone else is shooting it?
I don't know as I was the only one shooting it. This was off a bench with an attached bipod.
Bipod on hand guard or barrel? if its the barrel mounted bipod then that might be adding to this issue
There is nothing magical about ballistics...its velocity, sight height and bullet BC that will determine POI at various close ranges. It is what it is, shoot accordlingly. If all is functioning as it should and you are doing your part properly carry on and enjoy.
I'd get somebody else with experience to give it a try and see if the results are the same.
