Best action?

Is this one the same cartridge named at the time Remington was having brain farts and changed the designation .280 Remington to 7mm-06 and then to 7mm Remington Express and then back to .280 Remington?... I had a .280 Remington 700 with the designation 7mm 06.
Bingo! It is.

Yes. I often elect to use the original moniker simply becaues I don't find it easy to confuse "7mm Remington Express" with "7mm Remington Magnum": I understand that is the reason why Remington when adopting the wildcat 7mm-06, changed from 7mm RE to 280 Remington. But if one wishes to be pedantic, it could be called "284 Remington". It was originally a 7mm so I tend to call it that.

"...For the fact that..." Downside is having to buy a whole rifle to get one. Remington does not sell actions. Mind you, it's not unusual for a shooter to do just that.

Hmm Really ! a fellow on here CGN sells them all the time - i just bought one to do a build and also its not a SPS action either - its the orig nicely blued model !:D RJ

Fixed it for you.

No you did not fix anything. That is not what I said. You can edit it your post and take my name out. I have read postings to other threads with the same "Fixed it for you" drivel. Do you like altering what people have said?

What action is in the Tikka T3? that thing feels like glass, lubed glass.

Lubed glass?

The best bolt action ever designed is the Mauser 98, period. Second best is the pre'64 M70 Winchester.

Agreed!

You forgot about the Husqvarna 1600 action. Not magnum strong, but a very fast, and a very slick action.

if you want the strongest, safest, most accurate 2 locking lug action it is the Remington 700 you want. You can still build it pretty too.

Perhaps... It is no doubt a great action, but... my gripe with the 700 is the plunger and extractor design.

Let's say you are hunting and you miss. the animal charges in your direction. You work the action in haste and short stroke it, the case is jammed, or the next round is a dud. Those extra second are crucial.

Sure, for target or precision it's not a big deal. CRF is just nice to have, and you know that case is coming out of there no matter what!

To me(and plenty of others..) the best is Barnard, its a great design and their machining quality is perfect.

I assume they are identical the Brno ZKK actions other than the bolt shroud. If so they are the best model "98" modified copy available for more reasons than I want to list at the moment. HOWEVER ZKK's (and I assume CZ actions as well) DO need some attention to smooth them up a bit.
Not sure if they're identical. I don't have a ZKK. However my 550 came smooth as silk.

Not perfect... They have very little camming action. I know, I have one. Just the radius of the top of the slot the round bolt handle rides in.

The machining quality does fall in the perfect category(not that its a term we use much in this metal cutting biz), they do a very nice job and definitely got a good process down.

I've never had any extraction issue yet nor heard of it being a problem with them. Must be some pretty hot loads if its sticking eh.

What would you say is the perfect action?(when it comes to the higher end custom stuff) everything else I looked at so far had other features that personally I find to be a bigger concern(or less desirable), not that they aren't very nice as well and certainly get the job done. I just think barnard did a nice solid yet simple design and I'm likely getting another for the next rifle but I'm open to suggestions, always fun to test out other stuff.

Barnard does a better than average job of machine work, personally I am not a fan of the way the set up their 3 lug as it totally buggers any sort of feed ramp.
If you want to try something different that is just as well or better machined and to much tighter tolerances look here.
http://albertatacticalrifle.com/hik...product/290-atrs-infidel-and-maverick-actions

From blueprint to finished product the MAXIMUM variation of tolerance is no more than .001, this includes the outside of the action which is cylindrically ground, as are our bolts. The ways are cut in an EDM to a .0001 tolerance. Each action is hand lapped to it's individual bolt. These glide like greased glass.:D
