A light rifle....

It is a great caliber for a hunter, but myself just prefer anything in 308, look like this gorgeous FNAR Competition, it is not made in 30-06 or 260 or 243, it is made in 308 for one reason, it is the most versatile caliber on earth for all applications, i dont say that... Just at looking at the industry you see it clearly, that it is the prize chosen caliber... My Forbes 24B 30-06 will find a good home because it just spell quality and utility... JP.

I decided on the 30-06 because for what I wanted it seemed like a better choice than the 308 as its more of a good thing.
It will handle a heavier bullet better, I know this since I have three 308s that I play with and at the time of purchase I could not get a 308 in the Forbes.
I'm happy with my choice as you are with your 308..... its all good.

Mine is the 24B, as I understand the 20b would be the short action for the 308 length cartridge.
Have you checked out their website as I'm not certain if they make a stainless...... maybe they do.
When I'm shooting groups I space my shots but a chap on another forum told me to fire a shot and pick up another rifle, shoot a group with that and then fire another shot with the Forbes, again repeat with another rifle, then touch off the third with the Forbes..... in other words he thinks I'm not spacing my shots enough.
Maybe he is right as he showed me a group that was one ragged hole with a 165 Nosler.
Everyone has their own theories and thats good, a person is never too old to learn something new or try something different ?

He is probably right, but that type of group sure doesn't reflect how a hunting rifle will perform in the field. Have you tried shortening your COAL in an effort to eliminate the flier?

Thanks for some good information on the Forbes Kevan, much appreciated!

At least we still have some members who dont just run around going "Look at me, Look at me!"

Also very much appreciate the info. A bit disappointed that I will have to wait until at least 2015 before I think about purchasing one, but oh well, what can a guy do ?

If you are as certain as I was concerning the rifle, you will not be disappointed with what you get.
Remember, these rifles are not everyones ' cup of tea ' so some buyers might be unhappy but its that way with all rifles.. isn't it ?
If you are ever out my way in the coming months and could spare the time I could take you out to the range and you could test drive mine ?

I appreciate the offer ! I may take you up on that, although I tend to avoid the ferry like the plague. And I am by no means certain about the Forbes, however I am certain about what I want in a hunting rifle (the calibre choice is the only real unknown, but even that is narrowed down to only a few choices). The Forbes 'seems' to be a great package, and I would love to try one out. What kind of glass are you running on yours ? I think Caramel had the right idea with the Leupold Ultralight, but maybe there's other options ?

Caramel certainly had the right idea for lightweight optics, I use the same glass on a 700 Ti.
I started out with an older M8 6X Leupold on the Forbes, but switched over to a 3X9 Burris Fullfield and I like it.
As for other lightweight scopes I'm not sure what compares weight - wise with the Leupold Ultralight.

i never worry about the weight as my son and i split the load. Same as my huntting buddy . As you do not need 2 of every thing on a over night hunt one gun,one axe one saw and so on. As for in the timber slow down as you allso have to pack out what you shoot so do not go passed your packing skills.

I have a serious affliction with lightweight rifles. They are a tad bit harder to shoot but I would take that anyday over packing a 9lb rifle for 10+km a day in the mountains. Coming out with a 120lb pack for 30km will change your mind when it comes to lieghtweight rifles. I have two lightweights and they are my favorite guns.

C'est Bon. My french is terrible. But my appreciation for a great rifle (forbes) and a supurb company and person (clay) is not dependant on language spoken. Joyeux Noel

As for other lightweight scopes I'm not sure what compares weight - wise with the Leupold Ultralight.

Nothing, but the Z3 3-9x36 is only a few oz heavier and is a much, much nicer scope. IMO it is very easily worth the extra weight.
