RobArms XCR-M first impressions and initial range report

An XCR-M impression: ... Fast.
This rifle has the quickest aimed rapid fire capability of any SA rifle, in any cal., ... that I've ever tried out or witnessed being rapid fired.
Uncanny, how those sights just hang on target through the(almost non-existent)recoil cycle.
This one was topped with Burris XTR 1.5 - 6 with 7.62 ballistic reticle, a good glass for the rifle.

Prone/bipod at 200yd, 5 go into a 10x12 gong in maybe two seconds !!.

An absolute sweetheart of a rifle, very much in demand on our gang's bush shoot days ... never a bobble or failure to F, F, E ... or any reliability issue to date.

I picked mine up on Saturday the 7th of December (merry xmas to me) and got it out the next day and after 20 rounds the bolt didnt cycle fully forward. Took awhile to get the round out and brought her home and did a full lube on her.

Got her out today and she fired flawlessly thru 20 rounds of federal premium 165g gameking btsp. My first ejected brass swished the spent brash can over 15ft away! LOL. Then switched over to Norinco surplus and was able to load the mag with five rounds and she cycled thru it perfectly with no failure to fires and no jams. I was pretty frustrated after day 1, but I'm absolutely loving it after day 2. Likely put about 40-50 surplus down the pipe. :ar15:

I agree with your assessments and I would add one of the nicest things is the NR designation. I mounted my Trijicon Reflex and it cowitnesses with the MI ISights perfectly.
Overall I am thrilled with the rifle, ergos, recoil, fit and finish are very good IMO.
I need to do some sight in adjustments but overall it has decent accuracy with my unskilled hands... Im going to mount my 3x12 on it with a bipod and see how accurate it is out farther one of these days.

Just wondering if you are doing the break in? I think it's 400 rounds with the gas setting at 4.

Yep, gas setting 4 right now and haven't touched it... I remember reading somewhere that wolverine supplies was talking with Alex R. and wolverine had said that the manual should be changed to Gas setting of 3 for break in unless you get fte but RA werent gonna update the manual. In any case, I believe the bolt issue in my rifle was likely a lube issue and not the ammo or gas setting. EDIT. I seem to remember wolverine mentioning that gas 3 would place less force on internal moving parts.

The round that wasnt struck in the chamber was a Norinco surplus but I had zero issues with it today and every round went pop...
 
not not at 4 because it all the recoil buffer that eat the recoil , you have to put it a the lowest setting that your rifle will run , it depend to of the ammo you use ,

agreed post break in... my manual specifically states (its actually the only line under break in LOL)


"It is recommended that the gas setting be left the "+" setting for at least the first 100 to 200 rounds"

"TO ENSURE THE MILDEST RECOIL WITHOUT SACRIFICING RELIABILITY, USE THE GAS SETTING WHICH THROWS THE SPENT CARTRIDGE CASES CLEAR OF THE FIREARM WITHOUT JAMMING. IF YOU FEEL TRIGGER SLAP, THE GAS SETTING IS TOO HIGH"

It's probably just the break in and like you said no lube. Keep us updated!
 
I also bought an Xcr-M this october, one week before rifle season for deer. Put on a 1.75X5 bushnell legend i had and went to sight it in at a local range. I was impressed with the mild recoil even with the gas setting on high, after about 10 rounds of hornady balistic tip 165gr i had it shooting nice at 100 yards about 2 inch group which i was happy with since i had such a low magnification with the scope. tested it out at 200 yards at the range and put 3 shots into a 3inch group. Not much of an accuracy test but all i needed was to sight it in quickly before deer season, ended up getting my first 5 point buck at about 80 yards.
 
So I just got back from another 50 round outing. I put an initial 10 rounds through the XCR-M on setting 4, and then turned her down to 3 for another 20 rounds with no issues. At the 30 round mark, I tried setting 2 and had an FTE on the first round. Turned it back to 3 and shot another 20 rounds without any troubles.

I was shooting at a 16x16 gong from 100 yards with the factory MI BUIS. The rifle was shot from a seated position. Temps were around 0' Celcius, and there was a +/- 15 km right to left crosswind. I hit the gong 49 out of 50 rounds, and other than the odd flier, the majority of the 50 round group were within an 8" circle, mostly in the left of center area of the gong. I was shooting AE 150 Grain BT FMJ.

So far so good!!! I'm confident that with a good optic and a better load this gun is capable of 2" groups at 100m. I know the accuracy of the XCR rifles is a bone of contention for some here, but as previously stated, I didn't buy the XCR-M expecting it to be a tack driver. I bought it as a low-recoil fun-to-shoot NR rifle.

I have yet to purchase an optic or a grip, but both these will be decided and ordered in the next month or two.

I had an XCR-L in 223, but I sold it due to having/wanting more rifles in that caliber. I think I might have to get an M though as there isn't many great options in NR 308 rifles apart from the M305 which I own already. The XCR is a really good platform as long as you aren't expecting 1 MOA, it's kind of funny how everyone complains about the XCR's accuracy when it really is no worse then any other comparable NR rifle. Seems like the XCR takes the blunt of everyone's complaints due to early issues that no longer exist.
 
Ahh 2014 is off to a good start... just got back from the range :)

and I can confirm the same with my xcr-m, put another 15 thru (after 100) on 4, dropped it to 3 and no problems for 10 rounds, dropped it to 2 and got thru 5 perfectly.
Really thought I was on to something, very first round of next mag, FTE. Bolt had mostly retracted but spent casing was still in there.After a couple more tries with ftes, moved it back up to 3 and fired no problem except for some ftfs that are purely the fault of the crap stock mag... next purchase is bipod and some pmags.

Be interesting to see when/if it can be dropped another gas setting. Really does fire well on 3!
 
Thanks for the write up guys. I have money burning in my pocket and can't decide on xcr-m, Tavor, Swiss arms or ACR, I guess there is no replacement for displacement! :)
 
Another range report;
I stopped in at the gravel pit on the way home to test some loads with berger 168g and Viti powder , I could only get out to 125yds ( the berger 168 vld's don't shoot as tite as the hornady 165g but they are meant for long range ). all groups shot with the gas valve set on #3. shot off the tail gate at -30* there may be some driving error but looks like 1 nice node.
