The reason I like STI is they are a 1911 company, they know how make them, how to fit parts properly, how to make them accurate and reliable.
They are not like Ruger or Remington slapping a 1911 together to cash in on the market. You actually get a properly fit and tuned gun out of the box with STI and they are priced reasonably.

I bought the Ruger after a ton of reading. Awaiting delivery now. The current issue of Shooting Times has a good write-up on 7 models.

But seriously (like I was kidding about the NHC - serious envy!) a few pics of it would raise the bar of this thread by a few notch!
Didn't Remington build 1911s for the U.S. War effort 80 or so years ago? Sounds like they took a break from making them, rather than jumping into the market. I recall hearing they have been producing parts for other companies selling1911s, too.

The WWI pistols were made at a Remington-UMC plant in Bridgeport, CT, and the WWII pistols were made by Remington Rand,which had severed its connection to the gun company many years prior, so there's no historical connection between current Remington in Ilion and the 1911. E-RPC basically hired Ilion to make these 1911's, wasn't on their radar to get into the 1911 game, but everyone wanted to cash in on the 100 year anniversary of the gun.
Plus its a Series 80....blech, I would never own one. Quality has improved a lot from the initial offerings they put out though. There were a lot of dogs in the first few runs.
How did china f****d up the economy? From my point of view, it is the only economy that is keeping the world economy from circling the drain. Maybe look at the US treasury bond that was sold to every major government around the world. When the housing market crash, those countries went bankrupt like Spain, Ireland, Greece..... Sorry I just would think Canadians should be more knowledgable and not swallow the American propaganda crap.

Regarding the "clone" guns (1911-pattern pistols made by manufacturers other than Colt), so far Para-Ordnance, SIG, Auto Ordnance, Remington, and Taurus have adopted Colt's Series 80 or a similar firing pin block system as well. Kimber's Series II pistols and most models of S&W 1911s have a FP safety also, but it is a different system than Colt's and is disabled by depressing the grip safety. No manufacturers aside from Colt ever adopted the Series 70 collet bushing/barrel arrangement,*** so technically there are no "Series 70" clone guns.*** What this means is that design-wise most of them share commonality with the pre-Series 70 guns, using neither the firing pin block NOR the collet bushing. Because of this it is important to remember that only Colt Series 80 models, and a couple of "clone" 1911 makers use a firing pin block. Older Colts and most other clone guns lack a firing pin safety and can possibly discharge if there is a round in the chamber and the gun is dropped on a hard surface, or if struck a blow hard enough to allow the firing pin to jump forward and impact the primer of the loaded round. Typically, use of an extra-power firing pin return spring and/or a titanium firing pin will significantly improve safety in these older designs. By the way, for the past decade Colt has been producing new pistols out of their Custom Shop that lack the S80 firing pin safety. These are the Gunsite and CCO models, WW1 and WW2 GI replicas, and a reintroduced original-style Series 70 in both blued and stainless steel that should appeal to 1911 purists. Interestingly, all of these use a solid barrel bushing, so mechanically they are more similar to the original pre-Series 70 models despite being advertised by Colt as having a "Series 70 firing system".
