I wonder how many Ross rifles are tucked away in the former Soviet Union? Imagine a flood like that of the current K98's or VZ-24's or the like. A man can dream I suppose.
Last I heard it was the same issue as their magical G43 stockpiles - what they have they want to sell for way too high prices per gun and want to sell in bulk units without any way of sorting out junk guns from good ones.
No way! Are those russian refurb ross rifles? Looks like they are treated to the same process as the nagant with all that red shellac on the stock. I'll take a ross and crate of surplus .303!
There are IIIB Rosses that went to the Brits, were supplied to the Whites, captured by the Bosheviks, supplied to the Mac-Paps of the International Brigades, captured by the Fascists, and then sold off surplus by the Spanish Government.
Russia could be holding Rosses. Who knows? Maybe they will destroy them under UN pressure.
Writing just looks like Greek because the Cyrillic alphabet was designed by a Greek Orthodox missionary named (ready for it?) Cyril. He started with the 24 Greek letters, added another 30 or so and the world has been confused ever since. Thankfully, it has been pared down in size at least 3 times and now approaches sane. It is used by most of the major Slavic languages.
It is not Russian the whole thing is Ukrainian Military TV show called "Arsenal" it is quite well researched. I'm watching it at the moment and will try to see what happened with them
- They were very impressed with groups of this rifle the one in the program was shooting under 5cm groups
- Photo of Rifles lined in the storage is not from Russia it is a photo of Birmingham Gun Works/Arsenal in Canada
- Rifles that came to Russia in bigger numbers came through Georgia and Armenia. They were supplied by the British during the revolution to newly established and short lived Kingdom of Georgia and Armenia
- This program gave high marks for Ross as a hunting/sporting rifle
