I painted my glock's inlay

Looks like I have to go nail polish shopping today. Wife might get a little concerned, haha.

does anyone know if a premium brand is more durable, or is a cheapo good enough for this?

I can say that cheap nail polish for my daughter (13yrs) don't last long...

I was a little scared to try it at first. I thought what if it looked like crap and it was hard to get off. The color I wanted was a cheap one so I figured oh well if it is on the thin side, all the easier to come off. If I like it, just throw another coat on. I found mine is to light, not pink enough, so i'm going to go a brighter pink. I think prep is very important. I used a soft tooth brush to clean out letters well. Mine has been on since the op, so over a month, and the polish was a $4 bottle from Wallyworld. It's been cleaned and oiled at least 5 times, CLP never hurt it. I remenber how much abuse my hands took when I was a young girl ( Tomboy ). Thats why I now play with guns! LOL.

Or try this basics : 1- remove the actual pink. 2- put a tiny white base, let it dry, remove excess. 3- put the pink color on the white.

The black frame goes throw the pink, by putting a first white base it will make the pink brighter, this is how I do my front sight with a orange marking paint ....works very well.
 
Painting on black will always result in a darker finish. If you want to brighten the colour up, paint it white first and let that dry fully before applying the final colour. When you apply the final colour, avoid dabbing it too many times as the white paint below may soften and bleed.

never thought I would be buying nail polish for myself. Hope I can find a colour other than white that will look good!
 
For mags it's so u can read it easier.
Black stamped inlays on black metal in the dark.

For guns it's just for appearance.
It's like pin stripping your car or white walls on old cars.
 
I got buddies that sometimes borrow a mag when at the range, they also have similar handguns ie Glock22. So instead of writing my name with a sharpie, the paint fill helps identify my gear. That's my excuse...

This is so cool, like hangin' out with my homegirls. Are we BFF's now. LOL. Just kidding. I could not resist. Hey,you feel strange? Never thought I would be talking about nail polish to a bunch of dudes. From now on, we refer to it as paint, agreed?
 
Nail polish can be explained. Try going thru the check out with 10 cans of cheap hair spray.

im now kinda fearing what my daughters are gonna do to my guns in a few years!

its bad enough when they wanna paint MY toe nail with polish!

try explaining that to the lads at the local fire hall!

Anyone tried enamel paint from the hobby store for painting models? Seems like it would hold up just as well if not longer and have a variety of colours.

Funny you should say that. I was thinking that earlier, but with all the excitement, I forgot to post it. My husband builds models. I will try it on an old beat up blued rifle I have and see if the none acetone nail polish remover removes it. That would be the only barrier to using it. It needs to come off with that because anything stronger would hurt the gun finish. Good thinking, 30-06. I will try and let you know.
