I don't understand all the "problems" involved with Series 80 parts! Simply GET RID OF THEM! Replace the thin metal levers in the frame with readily available "shims" to avoid the sear from moving out of place - get rid of the slide plunger and spring and PROBLEM IS SOLVED!! Kick grass over the €£¥? AND MOVE ON!!! And PLEASE no one try to claim these are "essential safety mechanisms"!!!!

And where in Canada are they readily available? Brownells won't ship them up here.

I hear you brother. When the lever that depresses the safety plunger on my Colt series 80 broke I just got rid of it all together and have not looked back.
A needless group of parts there IMHO

Stay positive. Don't sweat the small stuff. Life goes on

not a fan of the series 80 drop safety, or the smith and wesson revolvers with integral lock, or the huge engraved warning to read the users manual on Rugers

Series 80 type safety junk = answer to a question nobody needed to ask.

I agree - it's junk.

My .02 only though - your mileage may vary.

IBTL...dumb question, why not just buy a series 70? Put a titanium pin in it if your prone to throwing your 1911 muzzle first into the concrete:rolleyes:. Or better yet, buy a Ruger SR1911. Then all the work is already done {all but smashing bulls out}, problem truly resolved:stirthepot2:.

I think the problem most people have with the series 80 is the perceived negative effect it has on the trigger.

The reality is that a properly set up series 80 should have no perceived difference in trigger pull.

Sure you have a few added parts and may have to keep the pistol a little cleaner than normal, but the tradeoff is acceptable IMO.

Lets not ALL of us forget the basic laws of firearm safety: 1. Assume EVERY gun is loaded and ready to fire. 2. NEVER point a gun at ANYONE or ANYTHING you're not prepared to destroy 3. Keep your finger OUT OF THE TRIGGER GUARD until the target is clearly and properly identified.
Regarding the safeties of the 1911 - how many other handguns have as many mechanical "safeties" as the 1911?
How does the "safety mechanism" of the Glock compare to the 1911????

Google a picture of the replacement part or measure the distance between the applicable two holes and go to work with a drill and some files.

My Series '80-type R1's have been so modified and since no one is asking, I ain't telling. JMB got it right in the original design. "If'n it ain't broke ..... "
