The title pretty much says it all, im looking to hear what the best scope mount and scope for an SKS is. I was hoping to keep the scope mounted behind the bolt but I also do not want to use a reciever cover, I have heard they are terrible. I have a done a bit of research and it appears that a scoutscope mounting system is the most popular, I know the scope will be mounted forward of the bolt, but if its the most reliable answer then that may be what I have to do, anybody have any issues/experiences with these?

As for scope, I was thinking either a shotgun or handgun scope, any recomended scopes? budget is fairly low... around $200

Thanks

The best scope setup is by far those little iron thingys that come-pre attached to your rifle. Look through the back one that is notched like a V and line it up with the front one. Everything else is garbage and useless.

That's not a scope, silly. Apparently you didn't understand the question. LOL

You might not like scopes on an SKS, but to say they are garbage and useless is misleading and not correct. There are good mounts and there are valid reasons to scope an SKS, just as some people might have valid reasons not to scope their sks. Coming from the GTA, i thought you would be more open to the concept of multi-culturalism and acceptance of other opinions without blowing a head gasket whenever somebody does something differently than you would choose to do. :)

the choate mount are rock solid and you can still us the iron sights if you want.I think there is a stickey in the red rifle foreum on how to install a choate mount

Magwegde quick rail wartack rail ! Don't drill your stock :0/ you can use a short scope or a longer scope with higher mounts and a backup at flip up sight remove the scope boom ar flip up. Or just put ar flip up on after you remove the scope if the rings are low. Has anyone tried this it's what I was going to do have that magwegde rail already looks slick waiting for scope choice maybe a hilux?

how about a red dot or something like that....I've been thinking about putting something on my SKS as well but I sure do not want to drill and tap holes or modify anything original....i've seen rail mounts with a replaced gas tube, anyone have any comments on that approach????

^^ wondered this myself I can't see it being terrible however that gas tube is not the most secure esp with some weight at the top. Though I'm sure a red dot doesn't have to be very secure to hold zero

Has anyone tried one of these scout mounts? Not sure if any Canadian suppliers even carry them. They look like they might be a great option.
