Sako quality - fact or fiction?

I'm in the process of putting together my rifle "quiver".

I'm very familiar with Browning firearms (A-Bolt, X-Bolt, and BLR) and feel the quality/performance/fit and finish of those rifles has been good.

I am someone who does like to own "top tier" equipment and have no hesitation about paying the premium (basically double) if in fact the Sakos are worth it.

I would appreciate feedback from past and present Sako owners.

I own a sako 85 finlight in 308 cal. By far the best rifle I have and ever owned. Shoots like a lazer. Its synthetic and stainless with stainless optilock rings. Stainless detachable box magazines to go with it. Great all weather rifle. I love it. Puts my model 700 to shame.

Sako was a very good brand. but using the same barrel as a Tikka for thrice the price is not for everybody ....

plus i ve seen personnaly three wooden stocks that didnt last ... for the price that is a little too much ...

All Sakos that I've shot were 1/2 MOA rifles. All things considered they are my favorite brand for a hunting rifle. Once you get accustomed to Sako, a Remmy will feel like a lumber truck.

fact or fiction? Dude, go to a hunting store, pick one up, ask to cycle a few snap caps through it, and you will see.
They are by far the finest production rifles you can buy today. They aren't made in large quantities as Sako focuses on Q/C, so selection isn't always great. Yes they are expensive, but I'm affraid you get what you pay for these days. (SKS excluded :))

Yep... as well as most other rifles. Coopers are nice to, but I still prefer my Sakos. Haven't owned a Kimber, so I can't compare, but I've owned just about every other brand out there.

I to have had a stock that broke after the horse rolled over it ..I am not a Kimber fan and there are a lot of used Coopers for sale makes me wounder. Sako is a sako and there is a reason most guys own more than one. Like my buddy buying a Dodge 0% and now it is the best of the best HA HA

There is alot more to a Sako than the barrel. And yes, the best feature of a Tikka is the Sako barrel. Their receivers aren't bad either.

They use the machine for tikka, sako and trg barrels.......but buddy trust me those barrels get hand picked, oops a thou to much there this is a tikka,a fresh reamer a sako lol u get the drift.....

Wife had an A-bolt. She loved it. Laughed at my Sako's. Until
I got her a Finnlight. Her Browning hasn't left the safe since.

Worth every penny I paid for the 3 in the family. Saving for the 4th.
Tried a Tikka for my 22-250. It is a great gun. But it will be sold to fund a Sako.

I have briefly handled a Sako in the store - very nice - but handling the gun for 5 minutes only gives an impression. I have also heard the "quality gap" between Sako and some of the other brands has been narrowed in recent years with the new rifles from Browning (X-Bolt) and Winchester (Model 70) having improved fit/finish, etc.

Take a bolt out of a Sako or a tikka, and look at the bolt face. Now do the same with most other guns. You'll realize right away why they cost more.

If anything the "quality gap" has widened! You don't want to know how many rifles I've cycled through my collection, and you need to trust the owners who are giving you honest critiques, not the minority that have had bad experiences or the guys that don't want to shell out over $2500 for a hunting rifle. I will say that you can learn enough about a rifle with a 5 or 10 minute inspection if you know what to look for.

By all means, buy an X-bolt or a Remmy, and you simply won't know what you're missing. Even the Win model 70's are not what they used to be, but the FN made ones are my second choice.

I would definitely say that overall the quality of guns has dropped in recent years. I Luke the New Winchester too, but I'm deeply annoyed at the over complicated trigger, and 2 piece bolt. The original pre64 is the only model 70 daggonit!

Careful! Fine rifles are like good booze: Once you try them you're spoiled for life!

Sako rifles are good quality kit, there's many others that fit the bill as well - it all depends on what pleases you to carry...

There is nothing fiction about a Sako. Once you have owned a few nice Sakos, you're not going to be impressed with most of the slop out there. I will add that Kimber does do them up right as well, very impressive. With that being said, if your budget is $400, a $400 gun still gets the job done...most of the time........
