What length of shell are those federals? They certainly did a much better job. Thanks for the great video.

The only thing that I could think would be better would be a semi 308, like a hk g3 or similar.

My Garand would also fit the bill, but it isn't super short and handy to carry. But it does offer 8 rounds of 30-06 horsepower in compensation.

Cool stuff, and big difference. Looks like some good slugs there.

+1. Much better performance than the Winchesters.

The advantage for me personally is I carry my benelli m4 in backcountry.
I can load up 7 three inch slugs, (8 2 3/4 slugs, as it can have an extra on the carrier) and with ghost ring sights I am far far quicker at close range targets than a rifle, plus the piston auto system makes follow up shots much quicker than any other rifle equivalent I've ever shot. The recoil is so low it's laughable. My 10 year old nephew was blasting away with it and had no issues.
I can put 7 shots through basically the same hole in less than 2 seconds at close range. .

Alberta is very different than Ontario . Here , step in the bush with a shotgun not plugged to hold 3 max including the 1 in the chamber and you have trouble if a CO arrives . In addition a bud was out blasting with an 11/87 with an extended mag , in a gravel pit when a CO showed up . The CO told him that the centerfire semi had to be permanently plugged to hold no more than 5 under the criminal code . 3 is Ontario Fish and Game regs . You may want to check on that before heading out with 7 or 8 loaded in your semi . I'm not a lawyer and never played one on tv .

Hi kagia, I just bought a case of the Score 1 oz'ers. They use the Thug Slug (which is similar to Brenneke).....http://www.ballisticproducts.com/Thug-Slug-12ga-1oz-25_pk/productinfo/1261228/

And I agree......are all foster style slugs made from the same lead alloy? I'm not sure that all fosters should be judged based on the test of one brand.

Plus, I can't help but wonder, does what's behind the slug, effect it's physics upon impact, thus effecting penetration.....example, Federal's TruBall lead slugs (not the Deep Penetrator, copper plated one that Brobee has already tested)? Hmmmmmmmm.......that polymer ball stayed in the copper plated slug, so it might also stay in the lead slug, possibly giving a good combination of mushrooming, and penetration. There are a lot of different kinds of apples in this basket:)

Good video.
I'm interested to see how the others perform.

Will you be testing the new Score slugs?

I just picked up a case of 1oz and a case of 1 1/8oz.

I'd like to see how deep they penetrate, but I'm not expecting great results. The lead itself looks like it may be a bit harder, but the hollow point seems more aggressive than the Super X. Bigger, deeper cavity.

I might cut a couple open when I get home and see what the whole slug looks like.

The legal limit for a semi shotgun is 5 in the magazine of the longest shell the shotgun is rated for. In the benelli m4's case that is 3 inches. The benelli m4 will also hold an extra shell on the shell carrier, plus one more in the chamber. Bringing the total to 7.
But, when using 2.75 inch shells, the mag tube will hold 6, plus the one on the carrier and one in chamber. Totalling 8.

That's the law, canada wide. If you're not hunting then hunting regs don't apply.

If the co doesn't like it then that's too bad for him because he's wrong. It's the mag capacity that is legally limited.

I got a few boxes of the Canadian made Challengers and I swear by them! However, the Winchester Rackmasters aren't too shabby in the accuracy department either:

Here's a couple fired from a smoothbore with IM choke at 25 meters using simple iron sights. Winchester Rackmaster Rifled Slug, 12 gauge, 3 inch, 1 1/8 oz, Muzzle Velocity: 1700 fps

I have found the Rackmasters to be very accurate as well, but have never shot anything with them other than targets so I can't speak to how well they do or do not penetrate. More weight never hurts though and the 1 1/8 oz slug should theoretically be better than a 1 oz slug. That being said, I only buy Challengers now.

All of the regular Foster slugs are very similar post-impact IME, though results can vary quite a bit even within the same box of ammo probably due to their crude construction.

Anyway, I'd give those Federal Deep Penetrators a try, a big improvement for sure.

I think Brobee's going to need another gel block to stop the Brennekes and similar slugs though...

The law is the same in Newfoundland. You have to have a reason to have a firearm in the woods. So you must have some sort of hunting license. Otherwise you can be charged under the hunting act if anything else.

Charged and convicted are different. If you're not hunting you're not hunting.

most folks back there cant afford to fight anybody in court so they just get a license for everything. Every possible license you can get, so they can take a firearm with them almost all year long. Shotguns however, still must be plugged. The wildlife officers will actually stop and check you, and you can be charged if they are not plugged properly to a max 2 rounds. So total 2 +1.

But if you're not hunting then the plugging rules don't apply. If I'm hiking with my family, mid summer. With no sign whatsoever I'm hunting then good luck even getting a charge to stick.
If people stood up for themselves rather than bending over backwards to make life easy for useless govt officials then society would be better.

And I speak as someone who has been a police officer for half my life.

Im just telling ya how it is. Its a different world In Newfoundland, compared to Alberta. I discovered that once I moved here 13 years ago. People back home, at least im my surrounding area, would rather sit around drink beer and complain about the law then actually organize and do something about it.

And attitudes like that allow them into thinking they can do what they like and no one will stand up to them. As shown by the RCMP in high river.

If you stand idle while your rights are taken away don't complain when you no longer have any rights.

It's like people trigger locking non restricted in transport "just to be extra sure I won't get in trouble".

The law is the law. You don't need to do extra just to be safe. It's the police' job to know them, not for you to go beyond the law just in case they don't.

And in the meantime I will carry my shotgun where and when I like according to the laws of canada. Which apply the same here and in Newfoundland.

In Newfoundland they use the Hunting Act to supersede the Federal gun laws. When you get charged for not having your shotgun plugged its Under the provincial hunting regulations. So yes you could be charged as they are charging you under the Provincial hunting laws which they control. It wont matter what the Federal laws say. It would be an interesting case, as one law is federal and says you can do this, while the other is provincial and is a hunting law.
