Service Rifle Calgary

Well, Muleystalker and I adressed SR matches here tonight at our club meeting. The club is VERY supportive. We have alot of details to work out, but I have been getting input from some really good sources. (thanks Bolivar, Tim K) MS and I are gonna do up a plan and run it bye our exec and plan for next spring. We are throwing around some ideas, and brainstorming. I appreciate the input from those of you that have assisted running SR matches before.

We are gonna give it a go and make the best of it. We are hoping to run the DCRA/NSCC Course of fire.

Let'er buck!!

Really good news brother! ANY help you need at all you know where to find me!

I'm happy to help as well. Hopefully I can organize one of my trips to coincide with a match.

Well, any news on getting us up and shooting Service Rifle in Alberta yet? When I win that darn Lotto Max, I'm going to buy us a section of land and build us the range that dreams are made of.

Once the snow gets under 4 feet on our ranges Muley stalker and I are gonna try to get a form of SR up and running here in Wainwright. I could care less about the APRA! We just want to shoot! Also Longshot has promised me a copy of his COF for CQB and I would like to run that as well.

You have me interested.

Keep us updated

Nice, too bad I have to drive all the way to Chilliwack and Kamloops to shoot. I know a bunch of guys that would love to go down to Wainwright to shoot.

I seem to recall Edson has a pretty decent range - quite under utilized with the exception of pre hunting season.
Ever think of running a reduced course of fire SR? How about a milsurp shoot? CQB?
I think guys don't want to get involved for maybe lack of knowledge or fear of over-committing - the shoots themselves don't have to be elaborate (in my mind at least), it is usually enough to get together and put rounds down range.

I'll have some party favours available...

The good thing about here in Wainwright is thru the gun club on base we have access to military ranges. for the CQB matches we have flat ranges so no one is shooting up hill on the berms. Once the snow dwindles we will start planing, for sure I will keep everyone updated.

Also, if guys wanna run milsurps for SR I am all for it!! Our Canadian Rangers run .303's in Ottawa and let me tell ya they get them rounds down range almost as fast a guys with semi's and just as accurate!!

run what ya brung. Optics, no optics, don't matter. We are not going to discriminate against anyone who wants to shoot and can be safe on the range. Once we get all the bugs worked out and start running these more often, also numbers permitting we can look at different classes, till then........ I was gonna say sky is the limit but we have to stay within the range templates so no .50's or .338's for now.

This is also subject to range availablity. Training on an active base takes priority over gun club.

Like tree mugger said, the Edson range is a joke. I was the first one to shoot there after they installed the ground baffles. It was impossible to shoot your target without tagging the top of the wooden wall of the baffle, even with the target as high up on the board as possible. They also put in pistol bays like in an indoor range that you have to stay inside while shooting. Also, it's only 300m with one spot for prone, which they don't want you to do because you're not on a bench shooting over the stupid ground baffles. Hinton goes out to 500m but probably only wide enough for 5 shooters.
