I have the opportunity to purchase a Marlin 1895 Cowboy lever action rifle. It is an original Marlin with the JM stamp on the receiver and is in about 80% condition. There are very minor dents in the wood and very minor scratches on the barrel. The receiver is color case hardened. Other than that it's in really good condition.
It comes with a Lyman peep sight installed. This particular firearm was bought about 9 years ago and is being sold by the original owner for $595.00. It has only seen black powder and lead bullets, no smokeless or jacketed (probably less than 300 rounds in total). Is this a reasonable asking price?

No brainer, buy it even if you won't use it much. At that price it's a good investment for the future.

I believe Marlin discontinued manufacturing them around 2011 or so. I've been looking for one for quite some time and have been able to find several available in the U.S. but rarely in Canada. Do you think they will hold their value because it seems like those who own them don't want to sell them?

They were discontinued when Remington took over. Why they're listed on the website is beyond me. There is no such thing as a Remlin Cowboy. They're all JM gems.

They also still list the 444, 444xlr, 450M, 450Mxlr, 338mx, 338xlr on the website.

All gone since late 2010, and not listed in the paper catalogue.

These were somewhat limited production by Marlin and I have not seen a new one since Remington took over...probably a good thing as these were one of the nicest rifles Marlin made...I'd grab it as any cosmetic stuff can be fixed if you desire.
Now...anybody know where a limited version with the 18.5"
barrel can be found...LOL!

That price is a steal, they listed the last year they were available at WSS for 1100 bucks, I bought and sold one for 900 bucks in pristine condition. Can't shoot 'em my hands are too big and the lever bites me hard every shot, so much so as to make me flinch, even with mild 400 gn jacketed loads about 1400 fps. I love the look but hate the bite so I sold her.

Well I appreciate that it didn't fit you because it fits me perfectly, thanks again!

To the OP, that price is unheard of even down south. If you want one, you would be a fool not to take it. Even if you don't want it, you could make a few hundred just by keeping it for a bit and re-selling it.

If long octagon barrelled lever guns tickles your fancy, there isn't too many that can stand beside the marlin 1895CB. Especially for that price.
