just looked at the ruger site and noticed the originals are no longer listed. not even the relatively newer 4.2" model. too bad. i always liked the original redhawks. seems like the end of an era sort of. i remember seeing the redhawk on the cover of the 1979(?) Gun Digest and wanted one ever since. was holding out for a 5.5 but happy i recently sprung for a 7.5.

Beautiful guns IMHO. Tough, reliable, accurate and easy on the eyes. Be a shame if they discontinued them. Perhaps they are just updating the site?

ya maybe. surely there would have been some more noise south of the border if they were discontinued.

This surprised me as well, so I contacted Ruger via their contact form on their website this afternoon. Talk about good CS...I got a reply back a few minutes ago and it stated, "We have discontinued this model for the time being. The anticipated relaunch date of the Redhawk line is sometime in 2014."

Mine started life with a7.5"brl. but was cut to 4" because it took too long to get out of the holster. At bad breath range you don't need any more brl. But as I have said in the past it ain't no fun to shoot.I have carried this gun since about 1981.

It sounds as if the are concentrating on higher profit / high volume back orders

It looks like Ruger has a bottleneck in production capacity that is costing them sales of various models and they know they need to reorganize to address that.

They stopped making Redhawks right (i.e. out of blued steel) years ago, I was lucky to find what I wanted (blued with 5.5" barrel) used. For the sake of you who want but haven't got a Redhawk yet I hope they do resume production, I won't be surprised if some design changes show up in that case and I hope they aren't for the worse.

777 ya it ain't fun I shoot it almost every day but at least a couple times a week. With full house Boomer made loads 12 rnds is a lot to shoot with out developing a flinch and jerking the trigger. It has served me well with not any real problems.I have Pachmayr grips on it but like the wood better they don't burn your hand when they move.

Picked up an old redhawk and a super. I beat my flinch by taking a deep breath and saying, '.22mag, .22LR, .22L, .22Short, .22subsonic.....aaaaahhh, kaBOOM! OH sweet Mary! May I have ANOTHER!!!!!!' Yeah, that's my little mantra.

I was born a smart a$$ pounder, forgive me. Myself, I looked in vain for a RedHawk for years to no avail. I do have a 629 inbound currently, so my comments were based 50% in envy {of your RedHawk} and 50% in the brotherhood of .44 mag pain that I'm about to join. ;)

I do love the BOOM! It's the BANG in the wallet that has me flinching already!? Laugh2
