These new details cement my feeling that this new rifle will be in my locker. 7.62x39, should use vz58 mags, adaptable to other accessories as well and would have some wood to boot. Thank you for the update.

Except that he's trying to keep it below 1k and we're condescending because it's a feature that doesn't friggin matter. Do you worry about teflon linings being on the pistons of your car/trucks engine, or do you just do your damn oil changes and trust that it's going to last a long time anyway? If you clean your gun after shooting milsurp, you will have no problem. If you don't, you will have more problems than just the barrel rusting. I've had to pound the gas piston out of an SKS with a very decent barrel before, no amount of chrome barrel lining saved that from happening.

I always clean my SKS's and 858 and haven't had problems. I would much much rather have chrome lining in my 858 even still. Bottom line, I don't care if you think it doesn't matter, it matters to me, and that's that.

Chrome is a minor issue, so minor it's a non issue.
Anyways, I just finished setting aside a reserved spot for the 958 in my safe. I'm ready.

I hope it comes with a bottle opener, especially if it's gonna cost more than a 60yr old sks that was built by commies

Seriously though, I eagerly await pictures of the finish product.

Question, will stripper clips still be useful?

This is definitely what I've been waiting for. A picatinny flattop NR black rifle that takes CZ mags and 7.62x39 caliber. Can't wait!

with all details so far, this seems like a natural progression of an already popular platform.
looking forward to hearing more as well as the eventual presale

I would also like to add that some form of bolt catch release like the one NEA makes would be a good idea. That part is an absolutely amazing upgrade.

Yup. That would be amazing to have built in.

I must admit to some surprize at the number of views, over 7,600 and posts, over132 in one working day. I have been keeping an eye on this and reading all the comments with interest. I had planned on keeping silent but due to your support I will throw out a little more info on what we have planned right now:

Caliber: The CZ 958 will only be offered in 7.62x39, I have committed to selling the full output from Bruno for several years, there will not be the production time to consider other calibers. This receiver size will not handle .308 cartridges. I'm 100% ok without .308, not having .223 is a let down though. I understand the reasoning completely though. Hopefully we'll see some decent, on par with say American Eagle 7.62x39 come up here soon at an affordable cost.

Cost: My aim is to keep the cost as low as possible, she will not be as cheap as the famed CZ858, our target is under $1,000 Canadian. Would pay up to $1,000.

Mags: the CZ 958 will use standard CZ 858 mags. Sounds good, these are plentiful and easy to find.

Mag adapter: I am hoping that the B&T mag well adapter will be a drop in modification, time will tell. That would be nice, especially if an XCR-M pistol, or 958 pistol ever shows up.

Stocks etc: The first run may feature "Canadian Wood" no promises, time will tell. The intent is that all CZ 858 accessories, stocks etc. will fit.The Canadian wood is a good news story, but even beaver wood would be ok if the slew of available aftermarket 858 stocks work.

Chrome barrels: Yes I know the million dollar question, if possible barrels will be chromed but it will put up the price as we are talking about new 18.6 inch barrels (To keep her non restricted) There may not be the option for chrome lined barrels if the manufactures capability is already tied up with other production. Not crucial, IMO. I would like to be shooting better ammo than corrosive milsurp through mine.

Delivery time; Unknown right now, I will not plan anything to delay production and deliveries but we still have a long way to go.

Next photos: We saw the pre-production samples last year, they were super! Our samples have been finished this week, I will post photos when I have them in my hands. We still have lots of work, lots of trials and test firing have to be fitted in to a very hectic work schedule and all the technical data has to be prepared for submission. I also have to visit Bruno to co-ordinate all the last details. Life is hectic, but not complaining. Looking forward to seeing the photos next week!!

Thanks for the support and remember I am reading all your comments.

My ideal use case for this is to replace the DDM4 I planned on buying. As such, I would like half decent somewhat affordable ammo, which is available for .223, but not currently 7.62x39. If I could get good 7.62x39 I'd jump all over this updated 858.

Finally, I think we can rule out this rifle being a semi-auto 805. Here's a quick GIF I whipped up. It's not perfect, but it's damn close.

That said, I'd pay up to $2,500 for a semi-auto non-restricted 805 Bren.

Hopefully these are available with straight line AR lower receiver extension adapters from day one. Getting a cheek weld on a rail mounted optic with the traditional drop of an 858 stock might be a chore.
