so, thinking about getting another one.

I have an SR9, and I like it, but I have had it for a year now, and I am thinking about trying another striker fired polymer pistol.

What do you all recommend? its got to be at least as good a shooter as the SR9. And yes, it does shoot well, despite the low price.

I will be competing in IDPA with it, so it has to be somewhat competitive and have access to a decent holster and mag pouches.

I also can't afford high end stuff, unfortunately, so no Walthers...

thank you in advance.

S&W M&P9 Range & Carry Kit. Best deal out there and way more ergonomic that the Glock G17 Gen 4. The M&P palmswells are a way better design than the cheesy afterthought backstraps on the Glock. IMO

M&P9 is good value. Accurate enough for IDPA.
Glock 17 are ubiquitous as well, however their grip angle isn't for everyone, and they still feel like a piece of 2x4 in your hand.

However, both are polymer, reliable, accurate and have enough of an aftermarket presence (parts, mags, holsters) that customizing and/or repairing them isn't going to be an issue.

In the end, fondle as many plastic fantastics as you can, and pick the one that feels right in your hand. I own 2 polymer pistols and prefer my M&P, but that's just me. YMMV

M&P 9 range kit. Accuracy in IDPA is all about the shooter, any gun can be accurate enough in this practice. There are no 300 yard shots.

You won't get a better value than an M&P Range Kit - trigger has a lot to be desired unless you go pro/core or upgrade to an apex trigger. Glock if you want lots of aftermarket mods. I love my SR9 too, sold my M&P, kept my heavily modified Glock.

Funny, I just order a stainless SR9. You might wanna give the Steyr M9A1 a try - my very first firearm. I also just sold my new Glock 34 - too big for my hands and trigger is pretty heavy and gritty. Hickcock45 says the stock SR9 trigger feels like a tuned Glock trigger. The Steyr trigger is love or hate. Feels mushy but has a very smooth break - disconnect is a vague though. Trapzoid sights might do well in IDPA for quick acquisition. Fit and ergos are awesome for me, points really well, and has a very natural feel.

I have shot M&P9s with Apex triggers... feels like you are shooting single action.

Yes, some good advice earlier. Fondle as many of the different pistols as you can to find what fits best for your hand. I did this on one of my trips down to Charleston SC and I found the XDM 5.25 to be the best pistol for me. I bought one IRUNGUNS and could not be happier. Just get a powder river precision drop in trigger kit and you will be amazed at how fast and controllable you can double tap with it. Awesome.

I have always wanted a Steyer, and a Springfield XDM. I'll have to look at that FMK thing, never heard of it.

I also really want a Grand Power but I already have a couple of hammer pistols.

thing that scares me about the Steyer is that I am sure getting mags, mag pouches and quality holsters would be fun... And spare parts. Plus, what is the good one the L or the M model?

I may just keep the SR9, I do like it.

I have never handled an L, the M fits me really well. I ordered my holster from Blade-tech in washington state, they had to custom make it between runs of other guns. Mag pouch I bought a Galco made for XD/Sig.. etc - it was a tad too big so I just ran zip ties thru back slots and it gave the perfect tension. I have seen mags in reliable and wanstalls. Steyr Club forum has really good members - lots of help there.

I had a M&P9 and a Taurus 24/7.
I liked the M&P but sold it.

Still have the Taurus. Good for big mitts and takes some for the trigger to smooth out a bit.
Both are good deals.

Many will say that one has better Ergo's than another...funny thing about Ergo's is if it doesn't fit than it doesn't fit and the opinion means nothing.
Try to handle them first but to answer your question and needs you can't go wrong looking at a G17. Lots of accessories and works Right out of the box.

As much as I hate to admit this, if I had to buy another polymer it would be G17, everybody and their brother has one so you can find parts and accessories everywhere.
