Hey guys,

I keep hearing that 9 shot is best for skeet and being new to the game I need all the help I can get. Question is it is hard to find. Anyone in BC (Lower Mainland) know where you can find it, or order online?

Thanks

I Use #9 in my 28 gauge, and 410 gauge, for skeet shooting. I generally purchase #8 for my 12 gauge, as I also shoot sporting clays and trap with my 12 gauge.

I believe the club I belong to requires it because of it's location (ie: within city limits), so our local shop sells it. But I've never seen it stocked anywhere else.

I always use #9 for skeet.there are 410 #8 pellets in 1oz of shot, and there are 585 #9 pellets in 1oz of shot.
there for it only stands to reason that more pellets should break more birds.
when I break a bird with only one little chip flying off I always say" thank God for #9 shot."

Agree. Have used it since I started shooting skeet in the mid 60's in all four gauges and many many times that chip has made a difference between winning and losing
Not sure why it is hard to find. I have always bought it 100 bags at a time from hummasons for price and shipping discounts and have pretty much that quanity on hand at all times. Don't really have a choice but to stock a few years supply when you live in the ass of canada like I do for reloading supplies
9's will also allow you to open up your patterns some without experiencing holes in the pattern
Not a big difference between 8 and 9 in 12 ga but 20 down it becomes noticable especially in the 410
Cheers

Are you looking for factory loaded shells or bagged lead for reloading . if shells any good gun shop that sells ammo should be able to get it for you .if bagged lead contact budget shooting supply sponsor at the top of the page .

Good point Rembolt I always just assume reloaded. If factory most skeet clubs keep a few flats in all gauges to sell for shooters to try etc that would be another source to get started with no. 9

Factory. I'm fairly new to shooting and haven't gotten onto reloading or anything yet. When I contact shops around here you mostly just get blank stares when you ask for 9. I've got some 8 to use and will stick with the 7.5 for trap.

Contact the clubs and see if they can help until you find a local supplier or order some flats in

I use #8. I've found #9 sometimes pushes the bird but don't break it.

I haven't found that to be an issue. Are you sure that the pellets are actually pushing the target, or is it possible, that the pattern passing close to the target is affecting the flight of the target.

Agree for me not an issue either. I seen it usually when I am shooting under the target as you say
Would also think a lot may be linked to how the gun patterns with no.9

Exactly, unless you are actually recovering the clays , to verify that the pellets did hit them, how can you be sure that the pellets actually pushed the target off course? Even marginal hits with the 410 using #9, seem to break pieces off of the clays. As to the targets changing course, with no pieces breaking off, I see that most often with 12 gauges, and most people at our club are using #8.

Some biodegradable targets will do it also and will not break with BB I think

Merck I will assume you are shooting at a club local to you .are you a member or do you shoot on a day pass basis .I am a member of the local club here in Dartmouth (DCTA) and one of the benefits of being a member is we can place your own ammo/ loading componets order with Lawrys in Ontario and have it shipped with the target order were able to do this a couple or 3 times a year . inquire at your club to see if this may be an option .
