Jeremy Clarkson on the St. Nazaire raid

I watched his other story focusing on his father in-law, and Victoria cross winner Robert Henry Cain. It was quite good and also told a lot about the VC, what had to be done to receive one, and the history behind them. Also showed whats left of the original bronze cannon they are made from.

Clarkson plays the goof to great effect, but truthfully the man is an excellent presenter.

Miles better than a certain other English presenter who Mr. Clarkson punched in the face once at a party. For this, I would be happy to buy the man a drink.

Oh, you mean when he punched Piers Morgan at the 2004 British Press Awards?

I'm sure a lot of Americans would like to buy him a pint too.

The man could probably move to the USA and never have to buy another drink for as long as he lives.

The best part of that raid was that the explosives on board the old destroyer did not detonate until the following day when a wack of German officers were aboard surveying the damage. Surprise!!

And somehow, even in a war documentary, Mr. Top Gear manages to blow up a car. Well done.

The attitude these guys had... you just don't see that anymore. Makes me miss grandpa.

Always been a fan of Clarkson. Not only is he funny, but he's very realistic and respects the military. He's also fairly critical of the nanny-state in the UK and a perfect example of how great the country used to be.

Compared to some other British presenters of some notoriety I could name, he's a godsend.

Great documentary, and presented very well.

In the mean time the Germans had made a documentary film, including the ship, Bragging what a failure the raid had been. ;)

Grizz

I have always enjoyed British war stories. Those plucky Brits are so nonchalant and modest about their bravery and achievements. It always makes me chuckle and smile.

Thanks for posting. This documentary is the "real" Clarkson and not the "oaf-ish" Top Gear Clarkson. I see most people get turned off by his "inventions that changed the world: Gun" documentary, but that was a BBC production that called for "oaf" Clarkson. He had to please his employers. For the most part he is very Anti-nanny state.
