Range Bags

Thanks... now my shopping cart is growing and growing... the mag pouches with shoulder staps and molle attachment look cool too...

I think the Pro model has the Molle straps. The standard Competition bag doesn't have 'em.

Pauls makes a valid point with the benefits with a backpack style. Having to walk around with a 30lb bag full of gear, one hand with gun cases and your other hand with targets/spotting scope etc can get cumbersome in a hurry.

I just bought a CED Deluxe Professional Range Bag, found it's really well constructed. Much better than the medium Bulldog range bag I got from Cabella's. On that one, the shoulder strap attachment points ripped out of the bag after a couple of range trips (was loaded with range gear and ~500 rounds of assorted 9mm & 45acp). The CED attachment points are reinforced the full height of the bag - much stronger. There's a video on the bag in this thread - http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/1030712-CED-Deluxe-Professional-Range-Bag. I'm finding the bag perfect for an all-day range trip. It has lot's of pockets for mag storage and other misc little stuff. The only downside is I couldn't find one in Vancouver, so shipping from Winnipeg was a bit pricey@ ~$37. That really can't be helped because the bag doesn't compact down that much so it's a bulky package to ship.

I use HUSKY tool bag from Home Depot, and seen others with them at the range, available in a couple different sizes. Works great even has pouches for the mags :D I use the zipped pocket for the ATT and reg certs.

I think it was like $35..

When I go to the range I use a "range cart" which is a folding cart from Costco I picked up that makes me the envy of most people in the parking lot. Folds up in the truck nice and flat, folds out into a nice big cart and I can take my pistol case, a few ammo cans of ammo and mags, my targets and my range bag (right now, one of the wifes fabric grocery bags) and then I can lay my rifles down on top of it and walk in without a single strain or care in the world
I can't find it on the Costco website but after a Google search of "folding cart Costco" came up with this - http://community.babycenter.com/post/a34089457/folding_wagon_for_going_on_the_sand

I use the smallest range bag I can buy. Why? My wife says it's "purse logic" 101. The bigger the purse, the more junk you will carry.

Now I carry a handy tool carrier from CanTire that gets me through stages. All the other paraphernalia, spares and tools are in a separate kit in my vehicle.

is there a way to lock the 5.11 range ready bag? do I have put the pistol inside a locked container and then put the container in the bag?

No the zippers don't have locking loops. I lock my pistols in a nanovault case or a locking soft pistol case and put them inside the range ready bag. The new 511 Dustin Ellersman range bag does have locking zippers but is a bit smaller I believe.

I've had this one for 2 years and looks like new still $69..Bass pro online with free shipping promo when it comes on.

I second, and third, the Midway Competition bags. I got two of them, one for me and one for the wife. The things are amazing. Way better value than anything available in Canada.
I got them delivered to a border box. Total cost to bring them in with duty etc. was $160 for the two. The 5.11 bag which isn't nearly as feature packed at a Winnipeg dealer was well over $100 each.

I have the CED deluxe pro range bag. It comes with a cable combination lock that you can use to lock the centre compartment, a brass bag and another "universal" bag that you can use for stuff that clips to the main bag. I took it to innumerable range days and 13 matches last year, and carried it stage to stage with all my ammo, small tool kit/cleaning kit, odds and ends etc. along with a litre bottle of water and snacks with never a problem, it's a great well made bag that keeps things organized well.

Maxpedition for me, expensive but you get what you pay for. Works perfectly and I'm sure I've had it loaded with more than 35 pounds of gear and it is still holding up fine after 2 years.

Spent a lot of money on range bags over the years, now I use an LA Police gear bail out bag ... for 20 bucks it rocks, not Maxpedition quailty but if it lets go I will just buy another (I actually got 5 from LAPG). Mine gets a lot of use teaching Pistol and Rifle through work. I am sorry I ever spent hundreds on the latest Gucci bag. The Husky bags are nice too and built like tanks.

I need a another "range bag" like another hole in the head.
I've been putting my HG's (still in their zippered sleeves) into one of my many backpacks along with other range gear (eyes/ears, etc.). So much easier lugging all that weight around.
Keeps my hands free to carry my "tool" box and my Starbucks. Besides, my discrete "bags" don't draw attention from the neighbours and anti's.....:)
