Anyone had trigger time with the MAK90 chambered in .223? Looking for comments on reliability and of course- accuracy. I am tempted to buy a new one set up with the Choate Dragunov stock. If I do get it I would have it scoped- I just wonder whether this platform will be reliable with the .223 round seeing as it was designed for 7.62x39.

just looking at a picture of it, i'm assuming it's prohibited based on being an AK variant. yes our laws are stupid and above all else broken.
There is nothing reasonable about not being allowed certain guns for zero reason, but allowed others. It would be like if certain brand trucks are illegal, but all Fords are legal and Dodges are restricted.....how does that make any sense?
Don't get me wrong, I agree! It makes ZERO sense that the AK and most of it's variants are prohib by name. I was simply trying to say that not many countries have ideal firearns-related laws but Canada is doing alright compared to some.
Anyways, back to bazza's question. I think you could expect to find quiet a few members here that could comment on the out-of-box accuracy of the Norc AR15. Have you considered the NEA15? Only $100 more than a Norc.

i know someone with a prohib mak90 x39 and had good things to say about it when it was used. i am sure the .223 is also good to go
Yes, all AK "variants" (except Valmet Hunters) were banned back in the mid 1990's.
The good news, is that "back in the day" I owned a Chinese semi AK in .223. It was reliable for me. It shot about 4 moa if I recall correctly (with generic ball ammo). This was a stamped receiver model. My experience with the milled receiver ones were that they were a bit more accurate.

I've a norinco AK84s ,this rifle was my first non-restricted center fire back in the late "80"'s and now my only prohib , it hasn't seen the light of day in a very long time. lol [insert sad little sob here.]
Considering it's chambered for 5.56mm and not the .223rem it was ,From what I remember of shooting it, accurate ,even with the down folding shock being a little wobbly.
Only issues I can recall had to do with the mags ,the spring on one was weak and some times I'd get a bolt over base jam .
and mags are hard to find over here.

I think you would find the accuracy a bit better in the AR15 platform over the AK one. Considering the intrest in 200m shoots at animals the size of Jackrabbits I would opt for the AR15. I use to hunt with my Colt AR15 befoer they become restricted here in 92. I remember that the rifle did quite fine on little critters.

Thanks for that- I was dreaming that I could pick up the MAK90 and engage rogue jackrabbits and turkeys at medium range but it is obvious that the Norc AR is the answer. Sure, my suppressed 7mm08 does great on wild turkeys ( with 120gr Hornady vmax loads) but i might want to eat one of the critters one day. 7mm08 vs turkey leaves only fragmented tissue.
The Type 84 I had (Mil Style AK in 556) was more accurate than my Type 56 (same gun 762x39) it was slightly less reliable (mag issues) and had the odd extraction issue, despite truly hurling empties most of the time.
I own a MAK-90 chambered in 7.62x39. It is a Polytec with sheet metal receiver. It eats ammo all day long and has never had any failures to speak of. For those wondering, no it is not in Canada, but safely in the USA in a gun friendly zone
I have not seen one chambered in .223 but I am sure they run just as well due to the base design being that of the AK, which is very reliable.
