Didn't really shoot my 6BR much last year but it got out a few times. I have a nasty habit of cranking up the scope turrets for long range shots and then forgetting to run them, back down again. The BR hadn't seen any daylight in months so I thought I'd lug it up the range and just make sure it was properly sighted in before the good weather hits.

One fouling shot and then it plunked three rounds through the same hole, exactly where it was supposed to ... easy as pie. Off the rest and back into the rifle bag and she is ready to slay gophers this summer.

The 6BR just makes everything too easy. It is easy to load for and super consistent not to mention ludicrously accurate. When I say three in a hole I mean the hole was a slightly deformed single bullet hole. This thing is ACCURATE!

My gopher load is a 70gr Ballistic Tip travelling at 3250 fps. This is a moderate load that doesn't stress the brass or the barrel but is absolutely devastating on gophers. It literally blows them in half.

LOVE MY 6BR!

I just got my 6BR build completed. I shot one shot to get it on paper and the next three shots went into one enlarged hole. I'm not going to say the group size but it was under .1 the next three went into .14, that was a brand new gun with no barrel break in and no load development. To say I'm flabbergasted with the 6 is an understatement. Wooooot

What twist are you running? I see quite a range of barrel twists for his caliber...

I'm not even sure. The rifle was originally built as a Hunter Benchrest gun by the guy I bought it off. I swapped out the stock to something more suitable for field use. As this rifle was built for short range BR shooting I would suspect it has a slower twist rate. I only ever use 70gr Ballistic Tips in it so I don't even know if the larger 105's would be stable. Don't really care as I will never use them anyway.

I have shot this rifle out to 500 yds and it is a fricken laser beam. You actually have to try not to hit stuff with it because it is so easy to put the bullet where you want it.

The scope is a Tasco Super Sniper 16x that I have had for years and years. Rings are Burris Sig Z. The trigger is an OEM Rem unit that was reworked by the local smith who built the rifle. Amazingly it is a fantastic trigger and I have no desire to change it.

I like the look and layout of the Ultimate Sniper stock but it does tend to be quite heavy. I have actually machined out some material from the thickest parts of the stock. I'm not sure how they got a plastic stock to be so fricken heavy?

I'm using just plain old Redding dies. Shooting 30 Grains of Varget and 105 Bergers, can't remember my COAL off the top of my head, Lapua brass and CCI BR2 primers. My gun is a Stiller predator action with a Gaillard 24" 1 in 8 twist barrel, Jewel and bedded in an MC. A5. I had it built so I could play with it on the bench and use it for varmint hunting as well. Its my first 6 BR and all I can say is WOW:) Thinking of selling my 6-284 now.

No, it's not perfect at 1000. Takes a lot of figuring versus a flatter shooting rifle. Benchrest is not so much about accuracy, it's about precision - small groups vs. hitting the bullseye. If you're happy cranking in those extra couple of MOA trying to chase the wind, more power to you. It's not perfect.

Besides, many 6BR's including mine don't have a fast enough twist to shoot those heavy bullets.

Have shot my 6BR in many F-Class events out to 900M (1000yds) against 6.5's and 7's where hitting the bullseye DOES matter, and I generally do fairly well with it (at least my trophy wall says I do ;)), including 2nd place by 1 point in the 2012 Western Canada F-Class Championships.

I too was told the 6BR couldn't keep up with the bigger bores....I say BULLSH!T......it's the driver, not the car, that wins the race and if you can steer, you can do well. :D

Correct me if I am wrong...the heaviest bullet available is the 115gr DTAC right? My Savage comes with 8t and it shoots the Berger 108gr very accurately.
It's my favorite cal to shoot. Super accurate cal.

The BR can shoot the 115's with an 8 twist barrel but it just doesn't have enough case capacity to do them any justice.

105 to 108 with the BR case is a recipe for success.
