Looks like each hunting license is gona cost us Manitobans $5 more this year. Kinda ####ty.

Anybody know where the extra cash is actually going to go?

It's one thing if people have to pay $5 to help fill a larger conservation budget, but another if it's gonna get frittered away on government pensions or something.

I heard about this on the way in to work. I would always like to know where this $5 is going. It's a non-issue for myself if it goes right back into the program.

Laugh2 Your complaining about 5 bucks, you have to be kidding?

Not really complaining, just informing.
-But also it could affect some people not everyone is as rich and powerful as you.
and its 5$ a license which means its gona cost me at least $20 more this year vs last, still not a big deal to me but might be to some.

I heard selinger say it was going back into something, I just didn't catch what it was.

Just got my MB hunter safety certificate, getting my first MB licence this year. :)

I'd have no problem with a price hike if it went into shutting down the rampant road hunting and night lighting I see every hunting season. Knowing our NDP government it's probably putting leather couches in all the offices under the Golden Boy. We all know it's not going to fixing the roads either...

I'm definitely not rich and powerful, but come on, 5 bucks? Hopefully the money does go into conservation. Here is a little helpful hint to others who may find it difficult to pay that extra money. Like me, don't drink, smoke (well I have the odd cigar), take illegal drugs, gamble, or cheat on your spouse.................and you will have lots of money, not only during the hunting season, but year around.

I don't take illegal drugs, gamble or cheat on my spouse but my money has always found a way to leave my wallet one way or another ;)

That being said, it would be nice to know where the extra $5 per license is going. This should amount to a nice chunk of change for the government to "play" with. We did just have our provincial financial statement released and it wasn't sunshine and roses.

A little google-fu yields this:
Other highlights:

The creation of a new “lean council” chaired by Rob Despins of Standard Aero, to provide advice to the government on ways to cut costs across government departments
Extension of administrative spending caps to all regional health authorities
Increase in the minimum wage from the current $10.45 set last year
Some fees will increase by $2.6 million, including veterinary diagnostic services, cottage rental rates and high-school equivalency courses
Revenue from a new hunting fee of $5 on every license sold will be directed to the Fish and Wildlife Enhancement Fund to ensure the health of wildlife populations
The provinces rainy day fund will drop from $275 million to $220 million to pay off debt
Under a new program, people on social assistance will receive an additional $50 to $70 a month based on family size
An improved tax credit of up to $5,000 to encourage employers to take on more apprentices and a new bonus for employers who take on apprentices for the first time

Being that Manitoba had some very harsh winters on deer, a winter feeding program would to nice to help the deer and other animals.

The reality of it is that Manitobans are idiots and keep voting for the #### NDP who have now sunk us into $30,000,000,000 of debt. They are only now realizing that they have to do something about it. To hit hunters with an extra $5 is a lot easier than taking away funds from people who don't deserve or need it. I'm not bitter that I have to pay an extra $25 for hunting. I'm bitter that I live in a province full of morons.
