Spare non-restricted tavor barrels

And what about the spare 15" ctar barrels if I want to make mine a range gun during the harsh winter months? When I talked to you (Jon), you had said ctar barrels were coming soon, acompanied with new triggers...

I guess the "triggers" have been kind of achieved, not for retail however, but at least we have found out U.S. trigger will work in this our Canadian/Israeli version.

Back to the topic of barrels, I would likely start with a Ctar, and when the time comes for a new NR one I would want one of them as well.

I've asked about spare barrels as well and have gotten answers ranging from they are not available, to they are but only if north sylva installs them. This is from dealers that sell tavors though. It would be nice to hear from north sylva directly about this as I am interested in a barrel too.

Alright, so who is gonna call Jon and ask him. (Talk to him specifically other wise you will get the run-around)

Im going to let someone else harass him for a change, haha.

Whoever does call, be sure to post your resaults of:
-pricing and availibility for both NR length and CTAR
-are we allowed to purchase the part and install ourselves? (TV-PressPass does his own every winter) Or do we have to go to a gunsmith, or send it to him since he is the IWI armourer for Canada?

Personally I have no interest if I must send my rifle away, but huge interest if I can manage myself or take it to a local gunsmith.

Before you guys all get too excited about switching Restricted and Non-restricted length barrel every 30 days, please read section 4 of the Firearms Registration Certificate Regulation (SOR/98-201) of Firearm's Act.

  • 4.
    (1) Subject to section 5, the Registrar shall attach to a registration certificate that is issued in respect of a firearm the condition that the holder of the certificate shall advise the Registrar, within 30 days after the modification, of
    • (a) any modification to the firearm that results in a change of class of the firearm;
    • (b) in the case of a firearm registered as a frame or receiver only, any modification that makes it capable of discharging ammunition;
    • (c) any modification to an altered automatic firearm; and
    • (d) any modification that results in the firearm ceasing to be a firearm.
  • (2) Subject to section 5, the Registrar shall attach to a registration certificate that is issued in respect of a firearm the condition that when the type, action, calibre or gauge of the firearm is modified, the holder of the certificate shall advise the Registrar of the modification,
    • (a) if the modification is intended to be permanent, within 30 days after the modification; and
    • (b) if the modification is not intended to be permanent but still exists 30 days after it is made, without delay after that period.

Gil from IWI made it clear all barrels had to be installed by North Sylva, because of liability issues they will sell you the barrel but you need to send your TAVOR in to have it installed.

I am aware of the laws pertain to CTAR barrel. I am fairly good friends with TV, and have learned alot from him, this is one of the things I have learned. I am still waiting an official response from Jon.

If TV is doing it with no problems, and I am able to leftorize mine with no probs (involves removing and reinstallation of the barrel) than I fail to see why I even need a gun smith let alone Jon. He is quite busy as it is and the wait times already seem to be horrendous.

And if they sell me a barrel, what is stopping me from installing it myself? If they wont ship/sell it uninstalled, what is stopping me from doing what TV does on his own once I receive my newly barreled firearm?

See the problem is people will still do this stuff anyway and there is so many ways to still get around this whole "only NS is capable" rule.

So I just got off the phone with Jon of North Sylva, he has stated that for him to bring in a production run of barrels he would need an order of probably 100 barrels to make it feasible for him to plunk down this kind of cash.

He has said the cost of a new barrel will run in the area of $450 a piece as it would contain a new gas system (likely to change with our dollar).

NR barrels can be shipped to you and installed by you, CTAR barrels on the other hand, must be installed by Jon as to guarantee the gun gets registered as per law (many people think you can take it to the range, change to a CTAR, play around, change it back and it is "all good").

He doesn't want to open up a can of worms for the Tavor in light of recent events. This is understandable in the most obvious way.

Jon figures it will be time to start bringing in replacement barrels next year sometime.

I'm in for some spare barrel and parts as well.

I just configured mine for Lefty this weekend and took it for a test fire. Had the barrel out and it seems that's the only real way to give the rifle a good cleaning.

What a great rifle the TAVOR 21.

I'm still saving for my tavor but things like not being able to get spare barrels or parts in a timely matter kinda been putting me off. Plus I always seem to be able to find a way of somehow damaging everything I own so I need to be able to fix it. Plus it would be nice to switch from restricted to non-restricted if wanted to.

So, if I own a CTAR does switching the barrel to the standard 18.5" Tavor barrel make the rifle Non-Restricted for the purposes of transportation and shooting at non-registered ranges?

Thanks
