22 lr ammo shortage

I was down in Niagara Falls looking for some Winchester M22 ammo two weeks ago at Canadian Tire. I got to talking to the guy about .22 ammo and he made a comments on people going nuts on snapping up CCI 100pks. The one thing that I found really interesting was he made a comment on how they've ordered more but haven't gotten ETA's on when it will be filled and may be getting their restock of ammo based on last years sales level.

I've been hoarding I guess, I have 7000 rounds of different 22 now. But I am buying at the same rate as I do in the summer, a box here and there. Now with this cold winter I'm just not shooting as much.

C'mon people it is common knowledge that every time Americans think there will be a change in American gun laws they buy up as much ammo as they can carry. This happens every few years.
Don't you remember 3 or so years ago you couldn't find 22lr anywhere. Powder and primers were in short supply. Manufacturers cannot keep up with the American hoarders.
We in Canada get whatever is left over.
The president of Hornady was on the news not long ago stating that they have had to start working people on extra shifts just to keep up with American demands. He also stated that his factory was now running 24/7 and was still having trouble keeping up. This shortage will pass as it always does.
When it does you should stock up like I do. Learn how to reload and buy as much powder, primers and bullets as you can afford.

thats about what i figured.... seen a big pile of federal 525 at my local canadian tire a while back. everytime i'm out n about, i grab two.
now the big pile's in my gun room lol. i'm sure i'll have it thinned out by the end of fall.

I have been looking for ammo in southwestern ontario. Every dealer I talk to says there is an ammo shortage. One fellow told me there won`t be any blazer 22lr. available this year.Another said possibly august.

My LGS had 4 different types of CCI, blazers, a few types of Remington and Winchester. They aren't cheap, but they are available.

Im down to my last 2 bricks of blazer, after that I'm onto federal 525 again and a bulk cci choot'm minimag bulk box.. hopefully I can find reasonable blazer again at some point it shoots accurately from both my 10/22 and sp 101

I grabbed 2000 round of the winchester M22 the other day and I'm up to just over 5500 of 22lr. Not a lot considering my and my son can burn through a box of bulk in the afternoon at the range with my Beretta model 71 but it's a start.

was at the 2 canadian tires in peterborough yesterday and grabbed 3 (IMO) overpriced federal 525 packs for 28.99 each. they had a bunch of bucket o bullets, but again overpriced and i've got more then enough 22lr to not buy it.

All hyped up for my first trip to Lebaron's Mississauga in a year.

Get there, and no .22, save some CBees. 8 bucks for a hundred sub standard rounds. And they only have 8 of those packs left. Asked when more would be forthcoming: best guess, "a few months...."

While I as there, 3 guys came in and asked the same questions.

I just got a brick of Winchester Wildcat for $23 at Lebaron's...but it was the Markham one.

Luckily for me I have a large stash, well ....stashed away! Winchester Target and the retro boxes, Federal 525, 714 and 710, CCI Minimags, Standard Velocity and Stingers, Eley Practice (not too bad at $52 for 500). Should last me and my two boys one season....LOL.

I was at one store who a few weeks ago told me they wasn’t going to be any more CCI Standard Velocity 22 LR this year so I bought the last 5 boxes of 100 at $10 each. Last time I bought them they were $3.00 for a box of 50 which was a while ago as I usually buy bulk (boxes of 5000). Well I was at a local Canadian Tire and they had them for $3.99 a box of 50 so I scooped up some more. While I go back into the first store who sells them at $10 and guess what, they have 5 boxes left again and it’s the last for the year. I kindly told him that what he said three weeks ago and somehow they got more. He goes red and stops talking to me and moves onto another customer. I would give the stores name here but they are a sponsor so I don’t want to get banned for this.
I am sure there is a shortage but there are some people that appear to be taking advantage of the situation.

I just did a count, I have at least 8 unopened cases of various brands and 3 or 4 opened cases. I like to buy cases or crates of ammo, none of this box or two at a time. I only buy when I see a sale. Am I a hoarder? Some might say so, I like to think of myself as prepared. I don't understand the guys that wait to buy ammo until right before they go shooting and then complain when the store is out. How hard is it to set aside some ammo so you don't find yourself lacking when it comes time to go shooting? I know I am at the extreme end of the scale but there is no reason not to have an ammo stash/stockpile of some sort, especially .22lr
