After a two month wait for the appropriate license to arrive so I can own one of these, I drove two hours tonight to pick this up....

This is how it looked when I picked it up...

...and this is how it looks after I put a Slaz 64 handguard on it - I think I prefer the earlier handguard...

Lithgow 1961 vintage, other than having the wood changed out it hasn't been refurbished. No doubt it is ex-NZDF, having the NZ Pattern carry handle...

My photos aren't the best, but I'll take some better ones tomorrow at the range.

When I was a kid growing up in the UK I wanted two or three rifles - M14, Garand and.... top of the list... a British Army SLR. Sadly the SLR/FN/L1A1 whatever named variant is impossible for me to own but seeing pics of what someone else can acquire makes me very happy so thanks for sharing. She is a beaut and you are a lucky fellow !

Goes to show just how stupid our gun laws are. The FN FAL has never really won me over in the looks department, but I'd love to own a FAL, an M14 and a G3 to have a nice complete set of 7.62NATO small arms.

Yep L1A1 with the zigzag bolt milling for dirt and grunge, added after they jammed up in sand etc. Fantastic rifles. Canada used them for years and they yeoman service. A REAL battle rifle, not the Mattel black plastic of today. :p I won't mention the time that I grabbed one by the barrel to rack it after an officer cadet had fired a couple of full mags through it at a three gun shoot....... :HR:

Got my L1A1 from Milarm many years ago, but it's Australian!
Now a funny story about another rifle I got from them. An 1895 Long Lee. Got a letter from customs that I would have to file an import form. Called them up and said it it was an antique that didn't need that. Their reply, "Oh we thought that was the model number! They then released it.

Also got the .22 conversion kit from the U.K. with two magazines.

If we think really, really positively maybe the Conservatives will fix the Firearms Act so well that we can actually own FALs.

Argh, I want one.
