Anyone remember the Calico ?

Came across this on YouTube. I had a friend who had one back in the day (when firearms owners were trusted with such things, not like all you homicidal maniacs today, on the verge of snapping, so you can't be trusted with mags bigger than 5 rounds etc. )

I think it was the late 80s, it was just a quirky non-restricted 9mm carbine back then, used a HK style roller locked bolt. Was fun to shoot and seemed very "space-aged". I recall it was very light. Very outside the box with helical 50 and 100 round mags. I remember the rear sight was attached to the mag, so sight adjustments were all done with the front post.

Oh please....this coming from the generation that invented the UTS 15......a 47 pound pump action shotgun that has more ports than a Klingon battle cruiser and sometimes even works...and the Kris Vector ?..12 pounds of LEGO to fire a 45ACP round...WTF...?..

Brought the mint walnut M100 at pawn shop. Paid $275.
That was my first rifle back in the old days.

I remember ogling them in the gun catalogs when I was a kid. Right next to the Daewoo and AK's before Allan Rock and his cronies crushed my boyhood dreams. Think I can sue them for mental anguish?

I hadn't seen this before, but was thinking that the M-100 would be very cool if brought back to market. Sadly, I now have another reason to hate Alan Rock. From the prohibited weapons regulations in the CC:

• 11. The firearm of the design commonly known as the Calico M-900 rifle, and any variant or modified version of it, including the M-951 carbine, M-100 carbine and M-105 carbine.

Can any former M-100 owners comment on the spiral mag and how it worked with rimfire? Any reason the mag design couldn't be resurrected in a new firearm?

I can't speak for the Rimfire, but I remember the 9mm was easy to load and there were no feeding issues. It could be kept loaded with no spring tension and then wound just before use too. Seeing as the rounds were positioned nose to base and all separated by the helical carrier there is no reason to think that it would be problematic with Rimfire rounds.

LOL I'll give you the Vector but, to my shame, there is something about the UTS 15 that just looks... awesome.
Am I the only one who thinks that ridiculous lump of vents, magazines, and possibly mind-control devices would be fun to see whenever you opened up the gun collection? Maybe I just need a bigger... truck. (I don't drive a truck)

You can say what you want about Rock (and it would be rightly deserved), but you gotta put blame where it's due. It was that b**** Kim Campbell who took the Calicos (and SPAS-12, Barretts, Tec-9s, etc.) away without compensation.

Ahh the Calico, back before it was prohibed, my club was having a demo day where there were a number of firearms available to try.
I had already decided to buy something so I narrowed my choices to three
1- the Calico M-100
2- H&K SP-89
3- Colt Sporter Match HBar

I eventually chose the Colt, I really dodged the bullet that day. The other 2 were both prohibed without compensation.
