I was watching Batman last night and The Joker whips out his rediculously long revolver, which is apparently a Smith & Wesson Model 15 .38 Special :cool:

Now this 'is' a very stupid question... is there any way this would pass as a 'non-restricted' firearm??

If yes I'd love to add it to my 'useless gun' collection next to my sawed off double barrel. Who can re-barrel like this?

Um no. It's a handgun. You could have a 72" barrel - it's still a handgun. Hence, restricted.

The frame is a S&W Model 15. Which is a handgun.

You're right about one thing - it was a stupid question.

haha, K, that's exactly what I thought. I know very well that as a 'handgun' it's restricted... but seeing how Kriss V's are non-res with long barrels got me thinking it might fly.

The receiver/action is non restricted the class for the vector is depended on what barrel is installed.

The Kris can be non-restricted with a barrel longer than 18.5" because it is a rifle. The Joker's gun would still be considered a handgun, regardless of barrel length. All handguns are restricted no matter what you do to them. The definition of handgun from the criminal code:

“handgun” means a firearm that is designed, altered or intended to be aimed and fired by the action of one hand, whether or not it has been redesigned or subsequently altered to be aimed and fired by the action of both hands;

Yes. Jäger arms does make a non restricted revolving rifle. It's quite nice too. The difference being it would require a frame mod to turn it into a hand gun. The Rossi is apparently restricted because it would only take the purchase of a different grip to change it to a handgun as opposed to a shouldered rifle. This is the breakdown of the explanation I was given at the gunshop that was selling both of these rifles. Stupid.........

The difference between a handgun and a rifle/shotgun, is 5 minutes and a hacksaw!
That is sadly quite true. A hacksawed AR 7 was used in a taxi driver murder here recently. Evidently the perpetrator was not concerned that he was breaking the law by modifying the firearm. A sad, sad commentary on the state of firearms law in our country. More constraints on law-abiding citizens, zero effect on criminal use of firearms. The bad guys don't give a crap about firearms legislation.

Depends one the importer filled the paperwork for the FRT...

- If you get the manufacturer to issue a new model number for the receiver, have it marked as <rifle> or something to that effect
- Make sure the overall length is greater than 26"

You should be good to go.

don't be discouraged from asking questions, here. However stupid they seem. You know the saying....
There are plenty of members here willing to be courteous with their responses.

I have the Circuit Judge. All I need to do is change the stock for a grip. GREAT Watch out Joker. The Judge is coming for you. LOL I have the circuit Judge it's restricted but brings a lot of attention at the club. But sucks that it's only a range toy. I never new why they class them Restricted and the Uberti's Non.
