Where do I find gophers in SK?

RM's sell maps with who owns what sections....drive around with said map and look at who own the quarters and talk to the owners. If they have cattle, they will most likely let you plink at the gophers on their land. That doesnt work, drive down to Regina and take out Gainer (not recommended with Rider fans around)

Funny

True

But still funny

How do you go about finding them? I live in Saskatoon and don't really know any farmers.

You most likely won't find them on gunnutz, but, if you grab an RM map and head out in probably any given direction, you will most likely find some. Knock on doors, or call some names of landowners that you find on your map. Stick towards the pasture type land and you'll be sure to find some.

Call the admin office in an RM. Sometimes you might get some help finding farmers who will let you shoot gophers on their land. In a lot of areas, the gopher population has been down big time. I stumbled on a small field (about 50 acres) a couple of years ago, in Manitoba. I asked the owner if I could shoot gophers on this field. He looked at me like I had rocks in my head. "You sure can!" I shot there for four days!!!!!!!

Be sure to take some time and talk with the owner, find out what direction(s) he/she may not want you shooting. I have made some lasting friends, good people! Have fun!

I know of a place, but unfortunately it is private land and I don't know who the owner is there now. There is no one living there, hasn't been for decades. The vast property is just used to pasture cattle all summer. I used to go there all the time many many moons ago, believe me, there were thousands of gophers there. The folks all around called it the Dog Hills. PM me for more precise info. If you can find the area on a google search, I could pin point the property for you and you could run down a search for the owner to see if you can get permission.

EDIT: the OP followed up and found that the new owner does not allow anyone on the property. Too bad! It was gopher paradise many yrs ago.

Check out saskatchewanhunts.ca forum and post on there, there are a lot of farmers and ranchers on there. There is a rancher that offer to let me shoot gophers on his land, but I don't shoot stuff unless I'm eating it.

I feed them to the cats. If he wants them shot, please put me in touch.

Had a Google at the S'toon area. One would have to go beyond all the acreages that are close to the city. Lots of good looking areas.

I guess finding a good looking area isn't the hard part, it's just finding out who I'm supposed to get permission from. I've literally spent days trying to figure this out.

edit: I think I finally got it now. I could be wrong but I think this is how it goes:
After finding a decent looking spot on google earth,
1. get RM map: I've heard this before but I could never figure out where to get one. Turns out I had to register at this site (isc.ca) and get a rural municipalities boundaries map.
2. use this search to find phone number of RM office
http://www.mds.gov.sk.ca/apps/Pub/MDS/welcome.aspx
3. ask RM office for map containing land ownership info
4. call landowner and ask for permission
