SHOT SHOW 2014: SIG SAUER P320 and SIG516 Competition Models

Couple of new sig products that are relevant to us in the Canada land.

First of all, SIG has just released their first striker pistol P320. The pistol uses the same interchangeable polymer lower frame of the P250 with a new slide assemble that works with a striker system. The trigger reminds me of the Steyr M9A1 with an extremely short reset and has a shorter trigger pull than M&P. The pistol also comes standard with sig factory tritium. The MSRP is 715 USD.

Finally someone at SIG figures out that the SIG 516 badly needs a longer handguard. This first realizes in the competition model with an extended carbon fibre handuard. There is also a keymod model which extends just beyond the gas block. Hopefully they will come up with a keymod handguard that is as long as the carbon fibre one in the future. The Canadian distributor rep on the show floor indicates that they have ordered every single SIG product that is legal in Canada. So we should be expecting these rifles when SIG starts putting them on the dealers’ shelves.

The Sig P320 looks relatively uninteresting compared to pretty much most of their handguns. I guess it is their first attempt at a striker fired pistol, so it can be forgivable. Given the quality of their their P226 and 1911 handguns, I would expect a little more from them. Maybe I need to actually get out to the range. It might change my mind but my first impression isn't positive.

Who is the Canadian distributed? It would be nice to get more of their product up here.

The first impression of glock isn't the greatest ever. Until you shoot them. If this shoots nice, and knowing there quality, this could be a big hit for sig. Just from clips from shot show, I want one. the problem is I want them all.

This is a long time coming but my gut feeling says too little too late.

Sig should have made a ground up, low bore axis, striker fired gun 6 years ago to stay in the game. M&P9 has nothing to fear in this one.

Instead they focused on making a p227 and other abortions.

Admittedly, the design is growing on me, but the frame is still bugging the hell out of me. Maybe my problem is I keep comparing it to the P226 (Disclaimer: I own the TacOps model), whereas I should be including it as part of a purchasing decision along side the Glock and S&W M&P.
