2014 shot show: Faxon arak 21

The ARAK 21 has been discussed earlier in the forum, but here is a first look in person. In a nutshell, it is basically an AK gas system that is adapted to use Stoner multi-lug bolt and barrel extension lock up design. It has a quick change barrel that slides into the upper receiver and is held in place by the front pivot pin. All the guts are housed inside a monolithic aluminum receiver with steel rails for the bolt group to glide on.

The company itself may be new to firearms, but it is a family owned business where the "Faxon" family members are actually running the show table. If I did hear it right, the Faxon company is involved in the oil rig equipment business and they have the deep hole drill. Because they have the equipment and the expertise, they manufacture the barrels for the ARAK 21 in house.

Overall, it is an interesting design. Unfortunately, somehow I did not get to shoot it in the Media Day. It is definitely a bit heavier than a regular piston AR, probably because they put a heavy barrel in the demo gun. On the other hand, they do offer a lighter barrel profile.

The MSRP for a full upper is 1199 USD, and 1459 USD for an upper with 2 barrels.

The picture below is a pistol in 300 BLK

I'd be neat to see them release an upper that could take more normal AR rails. And I really like how the system doesn't need a buffer tube.

Outcold, It's still an AR-15 upper.

Sorry for the double post, I can't seem to edit my post lately.

I like the barrel retention idea. Very interesting.

The most exciting thing here is that the upper
is a drop-in system that works with a regular AR-15 lower.

..no buffer? curious as to where the recoil spring goes. Does it operate like a ZM AR?
