As some of you are aware we know a gentleman in the United States that produces exact replicas of the Colt RO633 submachine gun barrel, sights, and handguards, more commonly known as the Department of Energy gun or DOE. Original Colt DOE uppers are very rare and expensive and this affords collectors and shooters the opportunity to affordably achieve that classic look. See bottom of post for photos.
In order for the manufacturer to register for his ITAR export paperwork with the US Department of State we need a minimum commitment of 60 complete barrel assemblies.
Estimated landed cost for a complete barrel assembly is $400 USD. That is everything forward of the upper receiver. EDIT: I have spoken with the manufacturer and confirmed complete barreled uppers ARE an option. Price to follow.
The purpose of this thread is twofold. First we would like to compile a list of interested individuals to see if we can meet that target. Secondly we would like to see what options would be most popular with customers, as the option exists to forgo the barrel and import only the sights and handguards leaving customers free to purchase barrels from a Canadian manufacturer (also much less expensive in the short term and shorter lead times).
Complete uppers may be a possibility depending on the style desired, but adds significant cost and delay. Complete guns may also be an option but would further extend lead times as they would need to be acquired and exported, and would require down payment from those ordering.
In any case please note that we are an explosives manufacturer and I have a personal interest in firearms. We are NOT an importer and would be partnering with another company to complete the transaction; we are here to facilitate the deal.
No money will be taken at this point until we can solidly achieve the minimum order. We will keep a running tally of interested CGNers in this thread. If you know of someone not on the board who would be interested in this, or if you would prefer to add your name privately, please PM me and we will add them to the list as an anon.
First two photos are stock images, the next three are the manufacturer's replicas.
