    CFB Petawawa CQB Clinic 27-28 June 2015 - Debrief here! Pics up!

    27 April Update: We are FULL and taking STAND By ONLY at this time....

    So here we are at 2015 and CFB Petawawa Gun Club has generously offered to have me back doing a CQB clinic in anticipation of some CQB matches this season.

    Where

    CFB Petawawa Echo Range, but we will gather up at the White (P-141) Bldg, 5 bay garage doors, across from the Base Fire Hall (S-105). It's a quick right turn, immediately after you enter the main gate on base. Bring ID to show you are not a bad dude.

    When

    27-28 June 2015 Sat & Sunday
    We usually gather around 0800 - 0830 and then convoy over to Range Control.

    Cost

    $80 for both days (go and find any instruction for that price point) ha ha ha ha
    I'm only taking 28 shooters, first come, first served

    Where to Stay

    About 10-15min from range control (and right by Kelseys) http://www.petawawaqualityinnandsuites.com/
    2 min from base with several fast food/pizza options close by http://www.petawawariverinnandsuites.ca/

    Camping details:

    The campsite is inexpensive and nice. Here are a few links.

    Material Focus

    Everything I'll be teaching you is based on the CQB matches fired by the ORA at Langemark Range, CFB Borden.

    Here's the bulk of the material from my www.tacticalteacher.ca website:

    CQB Clinic Description (both restricted and non-restricted focus)

    CQB Competition (like in the ORA - Ontario Rifle Association) :

    * Snap shooting, rapid fire shooting, modified prone shooting
    * Advance and fire shooting
    * rapid magazine changes (since we don't use hi-cap mags in Canada)
    * gear selection, gear manipulation, gear evolution (I'm gonna surprise ya big time...)
    * What works in close and what belongs in the video games
    * What works for you and what does not work for you
    * Why you do up all your pouches and zippers especially before using the PortaPotty

    CQB (non-restricted rifle) or (restricted rifle) Gear to Bring:

    Depending upon the focus of the type of CQB clinic (Restricted or non-restricted)

    * Reliable, dependable NON-RESTRICTED rifle semi-auto loader: M1 Garand, Lee-Enfield, M14, M1A, etc

    * Reliable , dependable, and tested RESTRICTED rifle & pistol
    * Current club issued long term ATT or Short term ATT for guests, arranged by club host (chalkriver, my pointman)

    * Optics (Aimpoint, EOTech, BUIS, iron sights, ACOG, ELCAN, 1x or 2x magnification scope)
    * Bring over 400 Rounds of carbine ammo (distances inside 50m), bring the cheeep stuff
    * Bring 100 rounds of pistol ammo
    * Ensure you have reliable iron sights (USGI for you M14 lovers, I hope) or reliable/tested/proven optics
    * Your vest or webbing must hold the 5 x 5/20 or the 5 x 5/30 magazines you will need, depends on your platform.
    * Your vest should have pouches for 2 pistol magazines (restricted CQB clinic)
    * Your vest or webbing should be reliable (read: avoid the mall ninja, airsoft renditions) so buy quality
    * Bring extra ammo whenever in doubt (better yet double my suggested round count)
    * a bottle of lube (CLP, oil, grease, KY Jelly)
    * 2 or 3 pens/pencils
    * small rag
    * ear protection (electronic means are recommended)
    * Ballistic glasses are mandatory
    * an open mind
    * a sense of humor

    How awesome! So close to home too. Too bad I'm a pylon when it comes to this sort of thing (Geez, I just don't fit in anywhere, eh. lol!)

    What 'level' training and experience do you need to participate...and is there a level lower than beginner?

    Here's a good question: How is anyone ever expected, to get the experience necessary to take part in this, without being a 'tactical jimmystick?'

    No experience necessary. Lots of people start from zero. The important thing is to be safe with your firearms and comfortable with operating them. The courses of fire are fairly easy to learn and the clinic starts with basics and continually builds on them.

    If you identify yourself as someone who needs some guidance you will likely be squaded with someone with some experience.

    Don't worry too much about having the most high speed low drag gear when you are first starting. Follow the guidelines above in Barney's outline for what gear you need. I bought a bunch of condor gear at first and evolved it almost completely out while finding what worked for me and talking to others about what works for them.

    CQB, and the Petawawa Gun Club, are all about building a community where they help each other. Yeah there are some stale jokes and certainly some kidding around, but you won't find a better group of people to learn with.

    Hope I'm not too late to register. Just wondering before i do if there are any restrictions with ammo at the club/range where this will be taking place. Specifically, is steel millitary surplus 7.62 permitted? It did say to bring the cheap stuff. Just wondering. Thanks
