I've heard before that the lab defines an AR variant based on the ability to attach to an AR upper/lower. Could be wrong on that.

Yep that Gen 2 looks great. These would sell like hotcakes!

While it can accept an AR upper it has substantial enough differences from the standard AR pattern that it is certainly arguable; if the AR180B can be classified as different enough not to be a variant then surely this would have a chance?

Dude, the lab banned a .22lr blowback semi because they put replica AK plastic furniture on it.
    What do you think?

We imported one of these lowers and submitted it for classification late last year.

The Lower will not accept any AR lower parts (trigger groups, safeties, grips, stocks, etc.) and uses a proprietary carrier that you install your bolt in. It will accept AR magazines and of course AR upper receiver groups.

I hate to be the one with bad news but the RCMP FRT section have classified it as an AR-15 Variant. So Restricted it is.

Well you guys did everything you had to, and the RCMP did everything they could to make useless decisions...

So what happens with the one you imported then. Do you get it back? Does it become part of your prohibited collection?

The way I see it, if it takes AR uppers it'll be restricted because of how easy it is to swap from a 20" upper to a 12" upper. Too easy for people with regular PALs to turn them into restricted firearms, and oh the humanity...yada yada...

Yes we have it back and as it's Restricted we can sell it to someone as a Restricted firearm. Nothing prohibited about it.
