That's the case with 5.56mm and .223, as in a rifle chambered for .223 cannot safely fire 5.56 Nato. However a rifle chambered for .308 can safely shoot 7.62X51 as the reverse is true. (i.e. The opposite applies; 7.62x51mm is fine in a .308 chambered rifle; .308, however, may not be fine in a 7.62x51mm rifle).

Exactly, that is what I need clarified since mine needs 7.62X51 and not .308.

This is wrong.

A semi auto with milspec will shoot both. But wouldnt do it
It will not fire in a precision bolt action rifle

With the cost of powder these days, reloading is getting expensive. I use H4895 & Varget with 175gr SMK's and it's over 80 cents/round. I remember when it was like 65. Still a good price for match grade ammo. Glad I have 24lbs of powder and 1000 175gr SMKs on hand.
