7.62x51 Nato

John, you state the ammo is 7.62X51 so I assume it is not .308?

Rifles chambered for the 7.62X51 should not be fed .308 since there is a difference between these two.

That's the case with 5.56mm and .223, as in a rifle chambered for .223 cannot safely fire 5.56 Nato. However a rifle chambered for .308 can safely shoot 7.62X51 as the reverse is true. (i.e. The opposite applies; 7.62x51mm is fine in a .308 chambered rifle; .308, however, may not be fine in a 7.62x51mm rifle).

We have our first shipment of prime quality 7.62 Nato FMJ on the way in.... Due if 2-3 weeks.

John

any chance it is brass cased and boxer primed ?

Actually it's more to do with headspace. 7.62x51 has more headspace so when you shoot, the brass case expands more. The 7.62x51 case has thicker brass, so it can make the expansion, but 308 win has thinner walls, so the case might rupture. Apparently, it's possible to chamber a rifle to have the correct headspace for both 7.62x51 & 308 win .

I also believe 308 win is slightly higher pressure as well. I believe 7.62x51 is pressure is specified in CUP, where 308 win is specified in PSI making a direct comparison tricky. But don't hold me to that.

Exactly, that is what I need clarified since mine needs 7.62X51 and not .308.

so is mine even though i reload :p, curious to see how much it will cost, i reload for about 40-60c a round with hornady 150gr FMJs... im hoping it wont be more then 60c a round.

This is wrong.

A semi auto with milspec will shoot both. But wouldnt do it
It will not fire in a precision bolt action rifle

I bet it comes in at close to a 1$

With the cost of powder these days, reloading is getting expensive. I use H4895 & Varget with 175gr SMK's and it's over 80 cents/round. I remember when it was like 65. Still a good price for match grade ammo. Glad I have 24lbs of powder and 1000 175gr SMKs on hand.
