    Thundershot LRC "Short" Rules
(official long rules list available by email)

You have from September 1, 2015 until October 31, 2015 to make your entries.

The objective of the challenge is to detonate a Thundershot exploding target at as far a distance as possible. The range at which you shoot is limited by the velocity of your bullet. Thundershot has a minimum impact velocity (MIV) of approximately 610 m/s (2,000 fps). It is your responsibility to know the ballistic capabilities of your rifle and ammunition and place the target within range of MIV. You can take it further, but you may not get a full detonation.

You should have a way to verify the range. A witness or spotter is highly recommended to reduce the chances of a dispute. A laser rangefinder or marked range is preferable; you should show the verified range in your video entry (see below).

You may take as many shots as you need. You may contribute your own Thundershot targets if you wish to make more attempts, however no purchase is necessary. We will give you three free targets (per registered category) to compete with. You may submit an unlimited amount of entries up to the closing date.

Modifying the target formula is not allowed. The original container must be used. All safety guidelines and usage instructions must be followed and users are solely responsible for the safe and legal use of their targets. Respect local, provincial, and federal laws at all times. Unlawful or improper use of the targets is cause for immediate DQ.

If you are shooting at very long range, have a method to get downrange quickly in case of an incident. Explosive targets can be fire hazards, keep suitable extinguishing media on hand and always obey any fire bans.

You must record your attempt by video and upload it to Youtube. Youtube accounts are free to open if you do not yet have one. The video must clearly show the verified range, shooter and rifle making the shot, and the explosion of the target. You don't need to show your face on camera but we need to see that you are indeed making the shot; a view from behind is fine. Your video must contain at minimum "Thundershot Long Range Challenge" in the title, as well as "Gryphon Energetics" and "Thundershot" somewhere in the video description so it is easily found, as well as the verified range at which the shot was made. Consider adding descriptive information such as location, your firearm and ammunition particulars, CGN username, etc.

Once an entry is determined as being valid, we will update the standings on page 1 of this post with the participant's range. If you get beat out by another participant you are welcome to try again at longer range. In the event of a tie, the first one to successfully make the shot will be the winner. Close differences may require additional range verification. Please be honest; your reputation is more important than a prize.

Any questions please let us know. Good luck, be safe, and have fun!

I'm interested. May have to wait a bit for the rainy season though so the fire rating drops down.

I should be able to hold 2000fps to about 850 yards

    I'm in. Should be fun.

Some rimfire targets would make this very interesting and much much harder.

I already wasted some of this stuff at 300m with my 223. It spilled all over the place and just made a mess. We shot it at 300 with 308 and it ignited. At $10+ a pop i dont like wasting it. I suggest some sort of catching method so if/when it doesnt ignite you can recover it.

Was that our product or someone else's? Exploding targets are not created equal. Where was the target struck?

As mentioned in the first post we will be providing targets for this challenge so participants are not out of pocket.
