Product Profile - the Sauer 101

The problem with having good people working with or for you is they tend to make you obsolete. I'm not old enough to be obsolete (mid 40's) so lately I've had to start reinventing myself and finding things to do other than ordering, selling and putting out the odd fire. The question is what to do?

Then in a moment of clarity it occurred to me... why not just go to the range?

And so it was born - the International Shooting Supplies Ltd. Product Profile. This is numero uno and before we get started a few things should be said:

First - I am a complete and total rank and file amateur when it comes to anything that has to do with computers, electronics and the like. In fact the past few hours of simply trying to get my computer to cooperate and clip then export a bit of video has been an exercise in anger, tantrums and threats. If you click this link and expect to see something professionally edited and polished you will be disappointed. That being said - any comments regarding sound quality, lighting and my lack of stunning good looks (I look in the mirror daily so am aware) can be kept to yourselves. Pretty much all other comments that are relevant to the topic are welcome.

    So here we go.

    Why the Sauer 101?

Like many of you I have a weakness for shiny expensive things that go bang so I figure if you're going to start somewhere why not just start at the top? And with hunting season soon approaching why not start with a quality hunting rig? At any rate - here are a few of the features that set the Model 101 apart from the rest of the pack:

    • Heat lock "No Tension" procedure for attaching the barrel to the action. A lack of threads between the barrel and action reduces tension and increases accuracy. The barrel is held in place by friction.
    • 6 Locking lugs that mate up inside the barrel and not the action...
    • Lugs and bolt body are the same diameter ensuring a butter smooth action and excellent feeding.
    • Dual plungers and large aggressive claw style extractor ensure positive extraction EVERY SINGLE TIME!

Other important features that are somewhat standard today in most hunting rifles:

    • Detachable Magazine
    • Proprietary Bedding System - "Ever Rest" (A twist on the aluminum bedding block systems)
    • Crisp Adjustable Trigger

I took the rifle (in 7mm Rem Mag) down to the range on a nice sunny day in May to do some shooting. I topped it off with Talley QD steel rings and bases and a Khales 3.5-10X50 scope with ranging reticle and illuminated dot. All groups are three rounds shot at 100 yards at just above sea level at roughly 24 degrees celsius. Here is how the shoot went:

When I was done with the Remington Core Lokt ammo I tried the Federal Fusion... here's how that went:

    Remington 150Gr Core Lokt:

    Federal Fusion 150Gr:

I never ran the video for the results of the Hornady and Nosler ammo. I shot two groups with the Nosler ammo (140Gr Accubonds) but both were in excess of 1" groupings @ 100 yards. This was poorer performance than the inexpensive Remington Core Lokt ammo I originally shot so I shelved the stuff. I then shot two groups with the Hornady ammo. It was The Superperformance 139Gr GMX. The first group was about 7/8ths of an inch @ 100 yards. The second - pictured below - was around 5/8ths of an inch at the same distance. Guess what I'll be using in the mountains this fall....

So that's it in a nutshell. If you'e a hunter and you're looking for a good quality rifle I can say with confidence that you'll be pleased with the Sauer. The 101 brings together three important components in a quality hunting rig: excellent feeding and extraction, accuracy and consistency.

I'm going to carry it into the mountains this fall after mule deer and elk and see how she does. Hopefully we'll video some of that too and post it up here later in the year under the same thread... that is assuming my knees perform as well as the rifle has so far. If you're interested in knowing more drop us a line at the store to chat - we have a few in stock and ready to roll for the fall.

Until next time - stay safe and shoot straight.

    Scott
