If you live in a "low crime area", and have a decent lock on your front door I would just go with a stack on cabinet. Secure it to the wall, and slap a trigger lock on your guns as well if it makes you feel better. The 8 gun one goes on sale for $80 often. Really fits 6 long guns and 2 pistols on the top shelf in it.
I have pretty much out-grown mine in 3 years, resisting buying another bc then I will feel the need to fill it lol!
I don't mean to hijack the thread, but what about building your own safe? I'd think the only requirement is that it has to be difficult to break into. Potentially you could make it more secure than the average store bought one, and make it any size you need. Is it a real possibility?
Hehe.. need. I'm not a hunter either, just an average guy with a PAL. Somehow my count is up to 6. I had to move shelves up in my "14 Gun" safe from Costco after purchasing a trap gun. Once you're into this, deals will come up, appetites will change, and your collection will grow. We can guarantee this.
I don't see the Costco safe online right now either. I bought mine 3-4 years ago and, after lubing the hinges, have had no problems. The backup key is TERRIBLE, so if you find one keep the batteries fresh. They're generally sold in-store only (like those "Special Purchase" sales at CT and Lowes). Bought mine for just shy of 400.
