CDTSA Milo CQB Clinic 2- 08/09 Sep 2016 - Debrief here!

TacticalTeacher

CGN Ultra frequent flyer
Location
Georgian Bay, ON
Editted: 03 April 2016 (Sunday) Registration is FULL at 20 shooters. Taking Standby for this 8-9 Sep Clinic Date! :cool:

CDTSA/Milo Members: I just got off the phone with your great Club President. If you are interested send me a PM! :)

It's more official LOL ; CQB is coming to Southern AB 08-09 Sep 2016 outside Vulcan, AB area (I think :) )

Your initial question is likely; Why are we shooting in the middle of the week? I'll let you know... as my Tae Kwon Do master once said, "Life is unpredictable and you work with what you have on hand."

So I work with what I've got, middle of the week to shoot at this range! Trust me, the effort is worth the laughs and good times and networking and learning etc, etc, etc... :)

And since I am limiting the clinic to 20 shooters , we figured we needed a second go for the planning flexibility! Now you can choose which 2 days can work for you and your schedule! :cool:

Where

Here's the link to the club's site: http://www.cdtsa.ca

Here's the link to the Milo Range: http://www.cdtsa.ca/milo-range.html

When

08/09 Sep 2016 Thursday and Friday

We usually gather around 0800 - 0830 and then a casual start for 0900

Cost

MEMBERS: $80 for both days
Guests: $100 for both days

Letters on Invite for your STATT

Once you pay me (EMT down below) I will be directing you to my pointman and chief host via email. You will be responsible for arranging your own ST ATT. We do things differently here in Ontario (I am learning).

Material Focus

Everything I'll be teaching you is based on the CQB matches fired by the ORA at Langemark Range, CFB Borden.

Here's the bulk of the material from my www.tacticalteacher.ca website:

CQB Competition (like in the ORA - Ontario Rifle Association) :

* Snap shooting, rapid fire shooting, modified prone shooting
* Advance and fire shooting
* rapid magazine changes (since we don't use hi-cap mags in Canada)
* gear selection, gear manipulation, gear evolution (I'm gonna surprise ya big time...)
* What works in close and what belongs in the video games
* What works for you and what does not work for you
* Why you do up all your pouches and zippers especially before using the PortaPotty

CQB (non-restricted rifle) or (restricted rifle) Gear to Bring:

Depending upon the focus of the type of CQB clinic (this clinic happens to lean to the Restricted platforms)

* Reliable , dependable, and tested RESTRICTED rifle & pistol (unless you insist on shooting an SKS or other NR rifle)
* Current club issued long term ATT or Short term ATT for guests

* Optics (Aimpoint, EOTech, BUIS, iron sights, ACOG, ELCAN, 1x or 2x magnification scope)
* Bring over 400 Rounds of carbine ammo (distances inside 50m), bring the cheeep stuff
* Bring 100 rounds of pistol ammo
* Bring 5 rifle magazines AND 2 pistol magazines. Hopefully you have marked/named/numbered your magazines
* Ensure you have reliable iron sights or reliable/tested/proven optics
* Your vest or webbing must hold the 5 x 5/20 or the 5 x 5/30 magazines you will need, depends on your platform.
* Your vest should have pouches for 2 pistol magazines
* Your vest or webbing should be reliable (read: avoid the mall ninja, airsoft renditions) so buy quality
* Single point sling (Vickers, BFG, Magpul MS3... my favorite by far)
* Bring extra ammo, whenever in doubt (better yet double my suggested round count)
* a bottle of lube (CLP, oil, grease, KY Jelly)
* 2 or 3 pens/pencils
* small rag
* ear protection (electronic means are recommended)
* Ballistic glasses are mandatory
* an open mind
* a sense of humour
* Read about some gear preparation ideas here: http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/foru...tted-on-19-March-2016?p=11386601#post11386601

Will be signing up later today! Have you thought about doing another long range course like the one you did a few years back?

Long Range? Hard(er) to secure the long range with the "butts" that I need to provide instant feedback. Unless I can use the 900M range at CFS Dundurn, SK.

CQB is lots easier to shoot, teach, have fun, and setup, takedown, and organize. Most fun with your clothes on , too. :)

Bring on the questions! :eek:

Paid, for two spots

My wife and I will be there,
Hope there is no pre req's for her.

Also I'm assuming pistol belt with holster and pistol mag pouches on waist in conjunction with chest rigs is ok?

Will there be time to break and switch gear setups I'd love to try and run my PC for a few drills also.

Stoked!

At most only 14 spots left.

EMT sent for one.
Thrilled and really looking forward to it!

.50 Beo mags OK on AR or 5-round mags only (and if so, can I just load he Beos with 5 rounds)?

Has anyone's EMT been excepted yet?
Mine has not,

I'm trying to book for 8&9th

Sorry for the confusion
No worries. I had company over for a few hours last night. Interpret that as: I have to appear mature and intelligent (among my lefty, artsy teacher mates) and that's often a challenge for a 58 year old like me who has ADHD. :eek:

This morning I should be able to get organized and have those deposits by EMT sorted out. I have to spend a few hours doing my Wheatstone Bridge Calculations homework that Electrical Trade school assigned. I'm trying to get my money's worth from my tuition and textbooks. ha ha ha ha :cool:

Cheers, :wave:

The club allows anything legal to shoot. Ie, mags made for pistols that fit other guns are legal.

Not sure what the course recommends.

TacTeacher here...

2 pistol and 5 rifle magazines. Run your fav .223 or 7.62x39 or whatever you want to use for the Zombies (hahaha)
Once you start running Glock 17 (for example) pistol and your KRISS (have I got that right?) Carbine that uses G17 mags, you can really foul yourself up on the mag changes under stress. Ask me how I know.... :cool:

Clear as mud?

So is this a 2 day course, or a 1 day course where you pick one day or the other. Sounds like the latter but want to be sure.

TacTeacher here:

Yes, it's a 2 day event / clinic. I'm not sure if I want to call it a course because the professionals like Rob Furlong, Keith Cunningham/Linda Miller/ Earl Green deliver courses. I'm not in that league... I'm not worthy, I'm not worthy! :runaway: ha ha ha ha

Glad we talked. Payment sent!

Just seeing this. I have a couple of questions for the CDTSA guys:
I can't make either dates for the clinics (sorry Barney); are the clinics a pre-requisite to shooting the matches, and when are the matches?
