    Black Box Frequently Asked Questions

    Ten Frequently Asked Questions

Tell me again what you guys do?
Black Box Customs customizes guns for high performance and good looks. We mill cocking serrations and lightening cuts, install red-dot optics, stipple polymers for added traction, and we apply Cerakote, a durable ceramic baked on coating.

What kind of guns do you work on?
AR-15s, shotguns, some precision rifles, and many handguns (certainly including Glock, S&W, Sig and 1911s). Contact us about your particular project.

How long will you need my gun for?
    About a month.
We've worked hard to speed up our service times, but we just keep getting busier. Large dealer orders come in that disrupt the schedule; if you need your gun back for a specific date, call us before you ship, and we'll quote the most accurate times.

What colors of Cerakote do you offer?
All of them. There are over a hundred standard colors, and we sometimes mix custom colors for fun!

What can you tell me about ATTs, mailing, and shipping fees?
You pay to mail it via Canada Post to us, and we'll pay to send it back. We don't charge for shipping.
If you're near Calgary, you can bring your guns (prohib, restricted, or non-) in person.
We're a federally licensed gunsmith business, so depending on your PAL and long-term ATT, you may not need any additional paperwork. Check with the CFO if you're unsure.
If you are taking a restricted or prohib firearm to the post office, you technically need a short-term ATT from the CFO. Call them or us if we clarify further. Please ensure that you send your package with a required signature.

Do I have to disassemble my firearm?
No. Some customers send us the whole firearm, and some send just the part. We're happy either way.

What are your business hours in Calgary?
We work every day (and often nights!), but visits to our workshop are BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. Call anytime, and we'll invite you over.

If I get CNC milling (serrations, optic cuts, etc...), does it have to be Cerakoted afterwards?
Yes. To protect your firearm, any milling on metal parts has to be completed with Cerakote. Remember to add the price of Cerakoting when you're budgeting your custom work.

    I'm a First Responder, do I get a discount?
100%! We extend a 10% discount to First Responders.

Do you have dealers or showrooms?
Absolutely! In Calgary, our customized guns are on display at Calgary Shooting Center and The Shooting Edge. In Red Deer, visit the excellent Red Deer Shooting Center. Go to Phoenix Range in Edmonton or Bartons Big Country in Grande Prairie. As we add capacity at our workshop, we'll add more dealers.

I want to get my M&P9 slide done exactly like pic in post there.

Cerakoted some sort of a dark navy blue or perhaps a bronze/copper type color

Can you guys provide match grade barrels for M&P9
    Custom stippling?
Can you provide custom triggers for M&P?
Can you do undercuts on the trigger Guard?

Sorry for all the questions. Lol.

Brunt Bronze is a very popular color, we also have a few dark blues in.

We currently have Storm Lake barrels in for M&Ps, depending on what you are looking for specifically.
We can absolutely do custom stippling,
We have the Apex tactical trigger kits in stock.
We can do a slight undercut on the M&Ps

    No problem.

If you have more questions please feel free to give us a call.
