If the lowest bidder matters more than ARX160 would have won outright. The fact the French picks hk416 over SCAR-L means unit price is not the big factor here. Scar is a cheaper weapon normally. They are all EU weapons.

The entire French army and airforce special forces have been using hk416 for many years, this isn't surprising as hk416 has been a successful and proven weapon in French military. They bought over 2000 weapons initially years ago, and they are buying the new A5s as well. You may not hear about it, but the French is active in Africa.

The Dutch specials forces also bought another 200 hk416a5 just now. They have been using the older hk416 as well.
 
Hk 416 variants are a great system for anyone. In my opinion they are a top choice. Hk needs that contract. Hopefully France turns its country around as well and fast along with Europe. They are talking of a European (EU) army as well. Regardless frenchmen need rifles that will last long with the political and demographic situations that are rising in Europe. There sure is to be much conflict there in the future.

Watching Larry's vid I was thinking this is from the SVT 40 OP system. And bingo the end of the vid he gives you the lineage.
The Ruski's sure got it right with the piston system....
 
HK'S greatest skills are not engineering it is marketing and working the system. They make some decent kit but I'm sure they are making a mint off these.
