I agree. Stick with the original mag design.
No need to add unnecessary costly re-design changes when the original metal mags are reliable and now available in polymer as well. I have some of the new polymer mags and they work great and are reasonably priced.

You can get AK mags with the bolt hold open feature, but they can be hard to come by.

I agree to keeping the original design, they are readily available, reliable, and would keep costs down due to not having to redesign the the rifle.

If west rifle focussed on just getting a base model out to the public first,i think that would be out best option.the most NR semis sold sooner, rather then later the better.

Accessories and add on can come later.

I'd even be happy to get a base model with plastic furniture like the CSA version if it meant we could get then sooner.

Longer handguard so it doesn't look so goofy with the 18.5" barrel, also a 5.45 chambering would be bada$$.

I'd just like to see it with a couple of simple modern design updates... a peep sight, bigger mag release, "tactical" trigger-finger bolt release, left-side bolt-carrier handle, and left-side safety. I'd buy one or two if they came set up like that in the box.

What will these be finished with?

The rifle in the second post seems to either be painted satin black, or is possibly nitrided. I'd be all over the latter!

Yes! Push the gasblock out and lengthen the piston so it doesn't look so goofy!

For the 18.5 inch non restricted barrels, why not just keep the same distance between the rear site and the front site block, and let the extra three inches of barrel stick out passed the front site block. It wouldn't require any different length handuards or parts.
